Hello everyone,

I have a Nexus 7 2013 and would like some suggestions as to what DAC/Amp I should purchase for it. I was waiting on the FiiO E18 but am curious as to what others are using with their Nexus 7.

Also, is there anything I have to do to the OS in order to get audio out through its port? Thanks...

So, I had some time with the Z1 and Note 3 over the weekend, in relation to USB DACs I had these results with mine:

Z1: Apex Glacier, HiFimeDIY, Tiny-M working. Pico not working.
Note 3: Pico, HiFimeDIY, Tiny-M working. Apex Glacier not working (very annoying!)

Didn't have time to compare audio properly, had to check loads of other things like camera/connectivity etc. Will do some blind tests at release of these and others, particularly keen to try 24-bit Vs 16-bit and see whether anyone can do better than guessing when blinded.

So, despite 24/192, the Galaxy Note 3 has the same USB Audio behaviour than the Galaxy S4.

It seems Justin has got the Pico dialed in for Samsung devices. Sadly, it seems not to work consistently for other phones.

When comparing 24 to 16 bit, be mindful of how the files were brought to 16 bit. If they were truncated, you'll probably hear the difference. If they were dithered by a quality program, you'll be unlikely to. I tested this when mastering an album several years ago. For a while, I trained myself to hear the noise shaping. I could pick it out in a blind test. But I can't hear any difference now. It's very subtle. 24 bit DACs are great mostly because you don't need to worry about them truncating 24 bit files. And in the end, it would be nice not to have to bother with dithering.

I am still trying to understand the difference between native USB audio driver in the Xperia Z and the TL. I have been trying to get UARP working on my Xperia TL for the last few days. I was having no luck on my own and sent the startup log file to audio-evolution. Davy Wentzler at audio-evolution assisted me, however in the end he came to the conclusion that it probably wouldn't work with the TL. His assessment was the native USB audio driver in the TL did not want to give up control to the UARP driver. Davy owns an Xperia Z and is pretty savvy with their phones. I was issued a refund for the app and appreciate Davy's help. I still have Winamp and Neutron and they both work fine. Xperia TL>OTG CABLE>USB isolator>HifiMeDiy U2 asynch DAC>Blaze S1 amp>ZMF T50RP

Where can I get a cheap all in one cable with Micro A USB OTG on one end and Micro B on the other. Goal is to connect Samsung Galaxy S3 to the Apex Glacier. Apex Glacier has one of these on their web site for $99, which is outrageous for usb cable. I found a $5 one here (http://hakshop.myshopify.com/products/micro-to-micro-otg) but it is sold out. I have 4 hours searching but am really surprised I cannot find a cable. I do not want to piece together cables and adapers - just want ONE wire.Is that asking for too much?

Ideally, I would have a cable only 2 inches in length with right angles connectors on both ends. How can I get one? Links greatly appreciated.

Those that have the HiFimeDIY Sabre Android DAC - the green LED is supposed to be lit up at all times right?

I received mine and it seems to be defective. The green light only comes on for a second or two, at completely random times and for random amounts of time. Its as if there's a short in it. This happens on both my 2012 Nexus 7 and 2013 Nexus 7 and I haven't had any issues with the USB port on either of them so I think its the DAC that is faulty.

Frustratingly, even when the green LED does come on, the DAC does not work. Can anyone verify that this DAC works with the 2012 and/or 2013 version of the Nexus 7 running stock Android 4.3?
