stock, stock stock stock. Most likely any player. Neutron player is the best for quality - worst for interface. Player Pro is the best middle ground (I tested around 15 players.)

Pretty much only the stock based roms work, and even though Siyah kernel supports it, often the roms don't.

The fix shown above works with the liquidsmooth rom, and thats about it,

have a stock S3 and i can not get it to interwork with the XP-1 for the life of me, how do we switch on the USB audio out?

If using an external DAC then quality of sound from the player isn't particularly relevant though.

There is no switch for USB audio. Plug in DAC to USB host cable, plug in host cable to phone. If that doesn't work then things to try are plugging the DAC into a externally powered USB hub (or similar solution that will power the attached USB device like Y-split cable with a power input), or alternately try the app USB Audio Recorder Pro.

I'm glad you're reassured, but it was never using the internal DAC. If it was using the internal DAC it would have to output an analog signal to the external DAC over USB. I would say the differences you are hearing are expectation bias, which is a very powerful influence outside of blinded tests.

I believe there needs to be some clarification... The patch jacknorris made, allows Nexus 7 users the ability to hotplug a USB DAC into their tablet. Before this patch, you had to have the USB DAC plugged in when you booted up the Nexus 7. Now, you can plug in a USB DAC into the microusb port at any time, and use it without having to reboot. The ability to use USB Audio is provided by many of the N7 kernels out there that enable this feature.

Of course, this is pretty awesome... It really was a pain to reboot everytime I wanted to use my USB DAC, so this patch makes the N7 even more awesome!

I am a frequent flyer at XDA and more of a limited poster here but cross referencing I stumbled onto this thread. I'm giving it a crack now (the hotplugging part). I got it working by default with reboot but now I'm venturing with the hotplugging.

Anyways, is there a way to charge the Nexus and run USB audio out (e.g. say a USB switch?). Can it support input and output or would you have to play with the POGO pins? I only ask because down the road I'm considering installing the Nexus in a car as a media interface and I'd like to be able to let it be continuously charged and have USB audio out so it's a clean signal leaving the device. Thanks!

You are correct but as a i9300 user this is new and great stuff. Before I had to stay on stock/stock roms, but now i can move on to CM10.1 and other 4.2.1 roms. The patch is supposed to work on more devices than the N7/i9300, there's just no confirmation yet.

Great news for AOSP AT&T Galaxy S3 fans!!!

While CyanogenMod 10.1 & AOKP do not work yet for some reason, I was able to flash a different AOSP based ROM which DOES work!!!

Liquidsmooth ROM works after flashing Jack's patch!!!! Hotplugging and all! Thank you, JACK!!!!
Liquidsmooth looks almost identical to CM10.1. I've never used it before so it's new to me.

I don't know for sure, but I would suspect that the Liquidsmooth ROM for Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile S3's will probably also work after flashing Jack's patch.

Now that I have my AOSP, there is one last thing I need for USB-DAC nirvana.

I need a USB-OTG cable that also triggers "dock mode" or "car mode". Has anyone found anything like this or know how to hack an OTG cable into doing this?

Tasker (app) should be able to do that.

Unfortunately my S1 is now out of action for a few months until I get the screen fixed :frowning2:

I still have the Xperia phone and intend on trying it out on my E17 when the cable arrives.

However I wanted to ask a question kind of related but Not quite lol.

Blackberry Playbook 64gb. Whats the score with this RIM based tablet folks?
Anything I can do with it or am I just stuck with headphone out on the tablet?
