Battle Of The Flagships (58 Headphones Compared)

I've been living with the K812 and HD800S for some time.

Unlike many I don't think the HD800S is necessarily better. I would probably rank it just below the HD800 personally.  But they're very close, much in the way the HD600 and HD650 are.

The K812 probably would not be in the top 15 for me.

Hi David . Have you auditioned the Utopia? I wonder how does it compare with Stax SR-009?

Would you place Utopia in top 10?

Regards

Please provide you comments on "Most Musical HP (Open) and IEM"
http://www.head-fi.org/t/840625/most-musical-hp-open-and-iem
Much appreciated

The word "musical" is really undefinable because different people hear differently and look for different things.  Also, different genres excel with different signatures, so it's so tough to say. But I suppose "musical" means, liquidy mids and forgiving highs, by standard definition.

For me, the most musical IEM these days is the ES60. It didn't make its way into this comparison, but I love it. I have an UERR coming my way soon.

I find the R10 extraordinarily musical, though its not open. The HD600 still blows me away in that regard.  And the LCD-3/2

I haven't heard the Utopia, nor have I heard new Orpheus.

It's a shame you can barely even buy any of these anymore new. I was looking for a top headphone thread like this and practically none of them exist anymore to buy on Amazon other than the IE80, AKG 702, HD600/650 and a couple more. Seems like the 600/650 really are standing the test of time.

Audio-Technica AD900 has been replaced with Audio-Technica ATH-AD900X and from what I have read they sound even better.

Only headphone I want on this list is Senn HD650 and they are over $600 in Canada so I'll wait for a sale.

They're $529 - https://www.hifiheadphones.ca/sennheiser-hd-650/

You're not likely going to find a better deal until our dollar gets stronger.

I'm curious where the focal elear's fit on this list.

Hey David, I am considering AKG K702 and DT880 600 Ohm for classical.

What would be your pick?

Thanks!

I'd probably go with the the DT880.  Hopefully your amp is good for 600 ohms.  The K702 has a more interesting soundstage though.

I want to say thank you and I'm in awe of the love, or was that
Obsession. I guess true love is obsession. Anyways, big shout out!

Thank you :)

Have you had the chance to try the new Tesla Beyers such as the DT 1990 Pro or the Amiron Home?

I'd be curious what you'd think of the new Sony MDR-Z1R. The Mysphere 3.1 is intriguing but not out yet.
