He last posted in November 2015 about the Orpheus. Perhaps he sold all his headphones to try the Orpheus, and is now unable to remove them, move, or speak. Someone should check up on him

Last I heard he had a scare with his hearing and stepped away from headphones.

I just read through this and I just wanted to thank OP if he is still reading this.

This must've taken so much time, money, and effort, all for the sake educating us consumers.

Now to buy all his A+ recommended headphones! Hahahaha

I've been living with the K812 and HD800S for some time.

Unlike many I don't think the HD800S is necessarily better. I would probably rank it just below the HD800 personally.  But they're very close, much in the way the HD600 and HD650 are.

The K812 probably would not be in the top 15 for me.

Oh my!  A post from David Mahler - nice to hear from you!

BTW, agree about your HD800S / HD800 assessment.  The S are too veiled for me - takes away from the sweet HD800 treble.

Hope you are doing well -

Best regards,

Yes, good to see David here! I hope your hearing health is doing okay. Just last week I bought an SPL meter to measure how loud I listen to my headphones. I seem to average 65-70 db, so that's a safe range.

Are those your main headphones now? I'm sure everyone would love to know what else you're listening to if anything.

Is the spl meter a computer app or a good ol' fashion piece of handheld hardware?

Ol fashioned hardware, just $15, stuck inside the headphone, closed up like a hamburger! Very high tech. I'm sure there's 1-2 db margin of error, which is fine, just wanted the peace of mind. I might bring it to some concerts too out of curiosity (I have custom molded silicone earplugs).

I remember years back when I first discovered this thread and I would dream about all the headphones. Now I've lived with a decent number of them on the list, as well as related ones. Some of the more notable models include the DT 880, Elear, HD 600, HD 650, HD 700, HD 800, HE400i, HE500, LCD-2F, LCD-X, NightHawk, SR-207, and TH900. If I had to pick a top three for overall sound based on my own preference (not purely technical capability), it would be the SR-207, HE500, and HD 650.
