Yeah LCD2 was among my noob headphones and was incredibly good now that I look back. One word to sum it all up - creamy.

LOL
 Must be nice.
My first set of nooblet gear was a JVC HA-55x.  No cream. Not creamy at all

HA! no its not. The E17 killed mine...... Literally. The Crushers can stand up to it... At 0 db and +2 bass. Absolutely sucks so I'm saving up money for the SZ-1000 or SZ-2000. Don't want the vibrator S***. I want to feel the speaker without the vibrator.

I am looking for software where I can plug the E17 in and eq it (provided that it has that type of thing).

This is the 55x driver

I modded it a bit and it slammed but I eventually ruined it then took it out and played with it.

So I got my SZ1000s last Saturday and Jesus Christ... To be honest I thought all the talk about them needing an amp was BS but now I know it's not. I copped a fiio e6 just to hold me over until I can get something better and sweet mother of god do these things hit hard. Hands down my best headphone purchase ever. Can't wait to hear them properly ampd when I can afford it.

XB500 pads on them was kind of a bust. They reduce the impact too much for it to be worth it. Got a pair of Brainwavz leathers on the way.

Thanks to everyone who answered my questions along the way!

I'm also looking for amp with bass boost (for TH-X00/D5000/D2000 and M100). considering Headstage Arrow (enhanced bass), Cayin C5, iDSD Micro...any thoughts?

from what i gather:

Headstage Arrow: best bass boost, crappy DAC
Cayin C5: great bass boost, no DAC
iDSD Micro: worst bass boost (but still good), great DAC

is that about right?

I'm switching from SZ2000s + C5 to TH-X00s + Arrow 4T (which will arrive in a few days - coat weather is leaving and I'd like a more pocket-friendly stack). My SZ2000s are up for sale but if they're still here when the Arrow gets here I'll post comparisons from memory - the C5 is already sold. I didn't do much any listening to the TH-X00s with the C5. The X00s EQ'd with a X3ii's EQ aren't bad, though are no comparison to the C5 and the JVCs, though I never listened to Jazz trios with the JVCs. Trying to reach that point of ideal versatility.

Arrow: good for iems

ah yes, i remember reading that (in fact, probably written by you!

). but i recall someone saying it was fine for <64ohm headphones?

all my headphones except my DT-770 should be ok, shouldn't they?

TH-X00 (25ohm)
D5000 (25ohm)
D2000 (25ohm)
Fidelio X1 (30ohm)
M-100 (32ohm)
DT-770 Pro-80 (80 ohm)

c5 if you really need the hardware boost and dont need the DAC.

Micro if you have a way to eq.

currently using a DX50 (with Digizoid ZO2 and M-100), so could just get a C5 to replace the ZO2.

although I don't have a proper desktop setup either (currently use an E17 as DAC), so the DAC on the iDSD Micro would be handy (hopefully to feed some sort of vintage amp one day).

I think I do need the hardware boost though, because I currently have the ZO2 jacked to max bass! either that, or get a new DAP that can use V4A!

Luckbad also had good thoughts on Ifi ican micro SE, this is non portable with 2 xbass settings and has ample power. I am kind of split on this and then the usual portable suspects C5 and E12.

I have not had any experience with either of these to pull the trigger, micro SE is the expensive of the bunch with very few reviews.

idsd + vintage amp = happy man

The cayin c5 dac would be a good choice, also look at the fiio e18.  Both have enough power to do some damage (barely).

I just don't think the Arrow has enough power to go basshead with over ears.

Theres a vid of  the e18 putting in work.  No vid of the 5tx doing anything.

What's your source?

The iCan is great, had the first version, great bass boost.  The new SE is a monster, but its a desktop only.

I have the c5 dac on its way so I'll report back on how it performs. The idsd micro is amazing with the X00 and sz2000 but it can get sibilant with the th900 and d5000, nothing a little eq can't fix. I had the arrow 4t a wile ago and like chill said its more suitable for iems, it can drive efficient cans but not like the c5 or e12
