The "best" bass is subjective so I won't get into it.

I would say out of the three open planars (LCD-2, He-500, he-400i) that I have tried that are said to have quantity and quality.  To me, the LCD-2 was the winner out of all of them.  The other 2 didn't go as low or have as much weight to it.  Like Jodgey said, it's just buttery smooth to.

Interesting.  Never heard anyone say the LCD2 was bass light before.

man if one thing during this head-fi journey i disliked it was the time when i owned the lcd2, i had to go over board trying to achieve bass and sound sig that suits me but no avail. I bought for it the chord hugo, the alo mk3 B to stack them and the bass just sucks. And the sound sig is so lifeless and emotionless that I just could not believe how they praise it so much in the lcd2 thread, that was the one item that i could not agree on to its reviews at all.

The oppo pm1 man is a quality headphone for bass lovers, not for bassheads. But its sound sig is so warm and amazing and great great bass

Is your LCD-2 using the leather earpads? When I had the LCD-2 with the vegan pads, the sub bass was no better than the HD800.
Midbass & midrange on the other hand were killer, but the lowest of bass was pretty meh.

Hey bassheads, has anyone heard the new Audio Technica WS770is Solid Bass headphones? Do they satisfy the bassheads needs?
and How do they compare to Audio Technica's Pro700MK2?

Without checking I think those are 40mm drivers while the 700mk2 are 53mm
700mk2 (vice grip clamp force aside) are known and confirmed basshead cans. The WS770 are unheard by me so maybe another member can give some feedback?

I was tempted by the pm-2 before, now you really got the wheels turning about trying them.

Carnivyle style all the way.  I was about to get some vegans for comfort, but some members told me it takes away from the bass, so I said "no way jose" and never tried it.

I've never heard of anybody saying the vegan pads reduce subbass, and that's not been my experience either. Sounds like placebo.
