I would like someone to lend David an HA-5000, so he can try it with the W5000. It just blows my mind the worst headphone listed is also a quite expensive Audio Technica.
Except for the lack of sponsorship, our guy needs to get on with his life. Though, he'd be the perfect candidate. But, wouldn't you want to see him thriving on stage and in the studio? And in his personal life aswell.
If David couldn't do this, someone else with serious cred could make a very interesting thread out of this. I love the rating system David used.
I'm with you! The write-up here is inspiring and could bring another soul forward.
Glad to hear that you're getting a grip on the issue of tinnitus. It's a serious issue and very relevant here on head-fi.
Very excited to see what you have to say about the he60. I may actually get to audition a pair in the next few weeks.
Sounds like he will be limiting his earphone/IEM time more than anything. Be well David!
David,
I'm so sorry to read about your far-too-close unfortunate encounter with the fireworks, but am glad that things have improved for you and that you are not back in the "saddle." Having had many ear infections as a child, I am shackled by the high-pitched variant of tinnitus and have to take a two- to three-week breaks periodically. I know how you feel, and it is no fun. Hang in there.
Also, please allow me to thank you again for all of your amazing work in this thread. I consult this thread almost daily. This truly is a monumental, peerless masterwork of a thread! I'm so glad that its creator is now able to enjoy his headphone collection straight from Valhalla once again.
Kind regards,
Jonathan
P.S.--I carry earplugs with me almost everywhere I go. I knew that my now wife was the one when she didn't mind my using them at the movie theatre. She thought it was a bit odd, but endearing.
Awesome job, and very skillful writing. I find that some people have trouble keeping things accessible, while using audiophile terms to describe their listening experience.
One question, would you ever do a video review? I mean, kind of like.. if you wanted to focus on one headphone, doing a 5 or 6 minute review to describe things in more detail?
Anyways thanks for this work, and i hope you get well soon. Best wishes!
This is still the best post, ever, on Head-Fi. I would LOVE to see something just like this on Amps and DACs.
That would be amazing! David's "Battle" Thread here, was just the shot-in-the-arm head-fi needed! We ALL benefit.

It doesn't mean that!
The onset happened when I was too close to someone setting off fireworks about a month ago. But I can still use headphones and as I mentioned, my hearing is still very good according the audiograms I took this week.
Well back in the day Skylab had a couple of fairly comprehensive threads on various amp and hybrids. Headphoneaddict covered the gamut of portable usb dac/amps as well.
On the DT 660:
"EASY TO DRIVE: In order to really bring out the warmth and add depth to the mix, one is going to want to power these with a warm amp. I happen to prefer tubes in this instance."
Good call. I thought they were really thin out of my vintage KR-9400 and Leckerton portable amp (to the point of being a disappointment), but my Zo really helped fill them out. Helps their performance with female vocals a lot. Doesn't make them bass monsters, but helps balance them out a lot and the added bass doesn't bleed into the mids. I think it does tone the highs down just enough though.
Basically, it's a headphone version of my B2/Zo pairing. Exactly what I wanted. Thanks!

I can't even take it when a Police car, Fire Truck, or Ambulance go by. I have to block my ears with my fingers, I notice most folks just casually keep walking. Dumb IMHO.
Good luck - any Vitamins recommended to you? Kinda' like Lutein for macular degeneration?
Get well soon! Thanks for the countless hours of enjoyment reading your review (while I'm listening of course)!!
You're welcome. I'm glad the DT660 has gained some momentum. It's a very good headphone for what it is and its one of the headphones I use most because I don't mind falling asleep with it in bed.... haha
Both these guys, amongst others have been immensely helpful and inspirational to me. Skylab in particular was one of the very first posters whose reviews I read in full...Contacted him back in 2007 when I joined. Great guy!
I've been taking gingko biloba, but no effect yet. I did go for two sessions of acupuncture and the second one made it MUCH worse and also messed up my hand. I've barely been able to type. I've been using my left hand sparingly lately...
Thanks for your thoughts though. I have hope that everything will improve. I'm seeing a "tinnitus specialist" this evening for the first time. I'm convinced in m case that the core of my tinnitus is not related to hearing damage.
