Battle Of The Flagships (58 Headphones Compared)
Dec 17, 2013 at 7:06 PM Post #4,742 of 5,854
Hey guys, I haven't had the chance to respond to everything.  I'm still here and I do have more to add which I have been working on for the longest time.

I had a run of many unexpected events in my life, some health, some passings of relatives, and some monetary, but its a very very troubling year and it's deeply effected my ability to devote time to the thread as I had planned to.

I literally haven't listened to headphones in 2 months because of what has happened. I am OK, and all will work out but I haven't been able to be as attentive as I would have liked.  I am sorry for that :frowning2:

But I am not gone.  And this thread will continue, but it will take time for me to get back where I was.

On a side note just to comment on something,  I did gain about 60 lbs while doing this thread because my lifestyle changed.  And then when this thread was completed (or the core of it) I hit the gym and became active again.  I don't suggest anyone ever become a stationary headphone listener the way I was. I wish I could have documented the 2 years I worked on the thread. It actually would have made a fun before-after (but backwards)

I just started visiting Head-Fi, but already I read this thread almost daily, just because it's so informative and, in all honesty, incredibly fun to read through your write-ups about each of these great headphones.  It probably will be a long time before I can afford to (or even want to) buy most of the headphones described in this (although I am considering springing for maybe an HE-400 or HD 600/650 sometime in 2014), but it's great to have this thread here as a reference.  So I hope you know that your incredible efforts at least paid off a little bit.  I know there are tons of others like me who enjoy this thread greatly.  I'm always sharing it with other people.

Agreed with the others who say that taking care of yourself comes first!  I wish you the best in 2014.  I need to spend the year focusing on myself a lot, too.  2013 wasn't the greatest year for myself either (but not the worst!).

I will definitely always use this thread as a reference when it comes to headphones.  Best thread I've yet seen on this site!

David,

I just want to join in and thank you once again for all of your hard work on this peerless thread.  Of all the forums I have frequented during the past 15 years, this thread is my all-time favorite.  It is truly sublime.

May you have a better 2014, my friend.

With highest esteem,

Jonathan

I would venture to say that there is no one out there
who's got quite an amazing
collection
like yours and the fact that you did this thread
and gave it to us for free
when I'm sure you could've made some money off it somehow,
speaks volumes about your dedication
and genorisity to this hobby and this community.

I read every word of it
and thoroughly enjoyed it and gained a lot of
knowledge from it.
In fact, I often come back here to see how you ranked
a particular headphone out of curiosity.

Get well rested and have a great 2014.

Would love to see your thoughts on the
new Audeze's and how it faired with the old...
if you ever got them.

Definitely not a poem. :D
Just don't like long stretched out sentences.

This thread out of others for me really captured a true head-fiers's love for headphones and I wanted to send my gratitude. That's all.

  whats wrong with new-age?

@Dubstep Girl

oh, what is wrong with new-age poetry?
   asks thee, my gentlelady.
     Basically,
        THIS!

  no rhythm
          or meter.
   no scheme or verse.

Lacking constraints to channel that creative cadence,
   craven chatter consumes the canvas!

When all rules and structure defining a poem evaporate...
the elegance of the caged craftsmanship,
chained down by strict forms but unbounded in beauty,

            simply
vanishes into the dark night sky...

the brilliant spark of artistic imagination tragically loses its glow when unbottled.

In a world where anything can count as poetry,
thee will find, my gentlelady,
is really a world without any poetry at all.

#old-school poetry REPRESENT!!!!

I see
           thou art a proficient
        master wordsmith with a
                grand and extensive
vocabulary that distims the senses and
laughs at the ubiquity of the common wordage that
assails the mundane senses of the humdrum posters that
frequent these hallowed portals of headphonic wisdom.

It is evident that thou art not a pedestrian purveyor of
    speculative and hyperbolic prognostications that
invade these threads with monotonous and bilious regularity to
cause the gastric juices to ferment into a squalid and congealed concoction which
has not the slightest probability of performing it's designed and desired function, but
requires copious amounts of antacids and analgesics to counter and thwart it's
resultant banal and debilitating effect on
the poor sentient victim's digestive and mental functions.

I, salute thee, kind Sir, for thy consistent, but, alas futile attempts to
raise the bar of cohesive and intelligent communications here for
the edification and education of the benighted denizens.

Thou dost lead by example, and in this case it is one which is sadly too distant for most here to
cohesively grasp without a pole vault and mental super glue for
which to attain and retain a permanent hold of your atmospheric annunciations.

However, do not thou desist, as surely as pristine rainwater flows downhill, your
soaring intellect will be watered down and mixed with the mud of sub-human reason to
feebly refresh and nourish the ground locked seedlings with snippets of pure intellect amongst the dross.

Perhapa, in future years, some of these weeds will be allowed to send fort a seed of germination to
         continue the cycle once again.

           Redaction the first.
Alas, and alack, it has perchanced to occur that, in my haste to
inform and educate, that there was a
metaphorical slip betwixt the brain and the keyboard resulting
in these dyslexic digits malfunctioning and forsooth, there appeared in the
text above, the bane of all and sundry, ergo, a
   spelling mistake.

Horror of horrors. Oxford, Funk and Wagnall, Cambridge, Merriam-Webster, Collins, et. al. will be spinning in
their proverbial collective databases and that modern font of
all wisdom - Wikipedia - has reliable informed my abberant self that
my most judicious course of action is to go forth post haste to
remedy this grave abuse of the Royal Majesty's native tongue.
