And Sorry about your wallet!

Yeah but I think it's one of the best reasons I have for emptying it.

Thanks Tuco, and welcome to head-fi!

It would be awesome if you can do a review on the  "hard-to-find" JVC HP-DX1000 and Sony MDR-SA5000

Wondering if you had heard the ATH a900x and how it compared with the ad900 you reviewed in here. Obviously being closed it has less sound stage, but more bass. Be interesting you hear your thoughts! Amazing post by the way, doesn't get any better then this.

Thanks, I have not heard the A900x (to my recollection), but I wasn't extremely fond of the A900, the mids felt awkward to me.

If I could put it into blasphemous words, the K702 Annie sounds like an HD650 that was made with a much more open soundstage, a bit faster, and not as reserved in the treble. Not to say they are better, but different in that the HD650's strength is it's intimacy, IMHO. The fact the K702 is more open, makes them not as intimate. Still, that is what I'd say they sound like.

so in other words the K702 anniversary sounds like the HD800 to you?

I was under the impression the HD800 was very neutral, and depending on your source/amp possibly leaning towards brightness by a smidge? I'd love to hear the HD800 some day. I find the HD650 very well balanced, but with a laid back treble, and definitely on the warm side of neutral. The K702 Annie fixes that laid back treble on the HD650, but still having a similar tonality.

The K702 Annie is DEFINITELY leaning towards being on the warm side, but my assumption is that the frequency response based on what I'm hearing myself is that it will be very linear, moreso than the non-Annie K701/702/Q701.

If I had to rate bass on quantity I'd say:

HE-400 - 8.5
HD650 - 8
K702 Annie - 8
Q701 - 7.3
Old K701 - 6.8

Oh yes, the K7602 Annie sounds good even off my phone alone. Not something I thought I'd ever say. I mean, they sound glorious off my A-GD SA-31, but they are definitely more enjoyable than the K/Q701s off lesser power.

The mids are even more forward than the HE-400.

not sure where to post random impressions but here are mine
just listened to a bunch of headphones today and my favourite so far have to be the hifiman he-6 and the he500
i have tried some flagships/ high end heaphones including senn hd800, beyer t90, ultrasone signaure pro, senn hd650 and the hifiman beats them all imo
agreeing with david's review of the he-6 and he500, the mids, speed, imaging, and especially the bass impressed me, the bass quantity amount was just right for me, very adaptable for many genres, and very natural sounding with the slight hint of warmth

No, not as much. The HE-400 has much more sub bass, but in terms of the liveliness of the bass, I found the HD650 to have plenty. That .5 difference is bigger than the numbers imply.

But then, let's not start the whole presence and impact nonsense. All I'm trying to say here is that the K702 Annie has plenty of bass. Noticeably more than the Q/K of old.

For others: (again quantity, doesn't matter if it's sub or mid bass)

XB500: 10 (only bass)
Ultrasone Pro 900: 9.5
D7000: 9.5 (presence being mainly sub bass compared to the Pro 900's mid bass)
DT990: 9
