Never own AT gear, so don't know what the mids sound like.  But I like the restrained treble part.  Like you, I'm sensitive to sibilance and peaky treble.

How's the stage on them?

Audio Technica is famous for silky mids especially female singers and the WS1100 has that signature sound. Soundstage is good for closed cans and the slightly tilted pads help too. Don't expect AD900X level of soundstage and imaging.

So HBB,

How about your iDSD Nano? If you had gotten the Micro version first, would you still have gotten your Nano? Any particular reason one way or the other? More portable, closer than expected in DAC performance, AMP performance, battery duration, etc? Or is the Micro version just night and day "better" for your particular type of basshead use?

Going to see what that sony sounds like when it comes tomorrow, then I'll look into some form of amp, probably the fiio mentioned in the OP.

@Hawaiibadboy

Interested to hear your thoughts on the iDSD Nano vs. Micro.

I've heard a lot of criticism of the Nano as being basically terrible and overpriced, while the Micro stuff  is a good value.

The Nano is 1.65V max output while the Micro gets up to 10V (Nano doesn't list specs in watts, which is a red flag). Also no bass boost on the Nano. Seems a bit underpowered.
