The X3 will play multichannel WAV files as mixed-down stereo. That's probably what you read.   I tried a few, just to confirm that it will play them. Most multichannel mixdowns don't sound very good in stereo, so it's just a convenience, not that useful.

3.4 makes my X3 sound very similar to my Pono.

Official X3 1st gen firmware thread--3.34beta: removed 5800 song limit, play through folders--Happy Chinese New Year!

The recent X1 update fixes the MP4 (ALAC,AAC) genre labels, so that's something to look forward to. My Beatles will no longer be techno. :)

I even format the microSD for my Pono in one of my FiiO DAPs, to make sure I can swap between players without worrying about it.

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

I'm curious too. Could someone "in the know" explain what the volume leveling is actually doing?

On my first-gen X3, I'm able to have music playing both from the HO and the LO (running thru a headphone amp) at the same time. (Nice for a shared listening experience that no one else can hear.)   Is this still possible with the second-gen X3?  Does this work on any other FiiO DAPs?

Another possibility that used to cause me problems was unusual characters in titles. I had a Sony player that would cause problems playing Dvořák until I changed them to Dvorák.

I can't give up 3.34 (too many other things were fixed that bothered me).    I've finally gotten into the habit of clicking on  "now playing" when I want to leave the quick menu. I still occasionally forget, and get the rude change of track.

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

I enjoy well-recorded music on my Pono. But I make multi-genre playlists that also include some less-than-stellar recordings (especially early jazz and blues) that usually need some EQ "help" to sound musical to my ears. Is there a headphone amp with EQ that works well with the Pono?

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

Hey #olddude, You're my FiiO-to-Pono authority. :) I have a Pono on order. I listen to microSDs of folder-playlists on my FiiO X1 and X3. Will I be able to just pop my various FiiO-formatted cards into my Pono, and continue listening to them the same way? Or is there something I'll have to do...

PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

My Pono player will be arriving any day now.  Will my FiiO-formated microSD cards (already filled with music) work fine "as is"?

I'm just guessing here, but I suspect the "Next Folder" setting is on, and it overrides the "Repeat All" setting. Hopefully it's something simple like this. :)

I use ALAC all the time (lossless, as well as compatible with both iTunes software and FiiO).   My only (minor) frustration is that FiiO players don't seem to read the "genre" metadata on ALAC files.

I have two X3 Classics.   The first was bought around a year ago, and came with the COAX cable.   Since I'm in love with the current X3 Classic sound, and use the treble and bass controls, I bought another one a couple months ago, when it was briefly on Amazon for $169. It didn't have the...

I've done that very thing. I formatted a microcard in my X1, filled it up with music, but then decided I wanted to listen to that music on my X3 (g1). The card has the title of "X1", even when viewed  in the X3.

I'm an X3+Grado fan myself. SR80 and SR225.   I usually have the (non-EQ) treble setting at -6. Seductively warm but still clear.

Any chance the FW for the X3 2G gets the genres right for ALAC?   It's just a minor complaint for me. It hasn't stopped me from buying two X3s (1G) and one X1. (for work, home, and commuting :) )

Is the security code the one on the box, used to verify that it's a real X3? Or a code on the X3 itself? (Both my X3s are at home, so I can't check right now.)

I had a similar deal, when I got my first X3.   I got another X3 recently, for $169, and a coax cable was no longer included.   (I'm now headphones-only, so I've never used the coax cable.)

Everyone won't agree, but I do! :D Also, I find the latest X1 FW 1.3 to be its best sounding, too. Someone at FiiO has tastes like mine. Someone else seems to like an overly bright sound, which appears on the FWs I don't like.

We're the opposite. I found 3.0 to be overly bright and slightly harsh. 3.34 fixed that for me. We'll see which one of us is happy when the next FW comes out! ;)

I'm very pleased with the sound of this FW update. It's now very similar to the sound of the X3. (I found the previous FWs to be too harshly bright.)   Now it's close enough that I can use the "Custom" setting in the equalizer to approximate the treble and bass settings of the X3. (I don't...
