How much you want to spend and how big you want to go

Looking for a compact unit (8" speaker) that would sit under my open desktop for nearfield listening.  Active system of desktop speakers plus sub coming in under $1500 total.  Would run amp to sub then out to desktop speakers so I could turn them off when I wanted to listed to HPs with the sub.

hmmm not a lot of companies put out 8" anymore.

check out this thread over at AVSforum.

Better yet, you should ask those guys over there.  Since they are very knowledgeable on active subs.

I run a 8" HSU stf-1 in my computer room, but they dont make those anymore and its on the bigger side since its ported.

If your handy, you can build your own with a raw driver, mdf, and a plate amp from PartsExpress

This is so helpful. I'm repeatedly struck by how I will search the threads to the best of my ability and then through a post will find direction to something that speaks right to my question.  Thanks.  8" is not a specific criteria and I've got room for larger.  For some reason I thought I would likely find more in the 8"world.  I've dug into  many DYIY projects over the decades, some very productive and others were rabbit holes and life is short so I I'm looking for a finished product.

The Yamaha is going to crush everything in sound quality and still have good low end. Can also eat amp like no other. I have the Pro 500's and there is just nothing under $400 that comes close to the sound quality. The only diff between 500 and 400 is the 500 has aluminum earcups. Both have really weird fit issues though and most people that buy them turn around and sell them over fittement issues. They also look like Beats, which personally doesn't bother me, but does some.

SZ1000's can be had under $100 now. I saw one on amazon warehouse a couple weeks ago for $90. Have not listened to the 1k's but the 2k's are kings of bass, but only if you amp em. I'm sure the 1k's are the same. If you got no amp or eq, then I would try the 400's.

Been watching this thread for a while, made me wanna shake my ears a bit more with some bass.

So, im looking for a movie headphone, preferably with good soundstaging, and ofc great bass to go with gun shots, explosions, and some godzilla roaring. My budget is $130 top. Tried xb950bt, good for movie, but lack detail, mid, and high for music, which kinda unfortunate.

Current targets are jvc ha-mr77x, jvc ha-sz1000, and ath ws770is.

Thank you all bassbros
