so the SZ1000 gives out more details in mids and treble compared to SZ2000?

Since almost everyone here (including myself) uses the FiiO E12 to amp the SZ1000/2000, when you turn the bass boost ON while connected to SZ1000, does it sound like an SZ2000?

and is there an A/B comparison of JVC SZ2000 and Sony XB1000 anywhere?

The SZ 1000 are easier to listen to if your library has variety. The sz2000 are cannons with other abilities depending on the amp/pad eq config.
The 1000 are a bit more comfortable and seem to have a slightly less overwhelming low end.

I think since their design is the same the low freq they each can reach is the same. The brass cylinder holds the hit and it feels a bit more forceful/overwhelming/not friendly to folks who like tame bass.

cb is still on rave.
He can give an "A" "B" of the XB and SZ....I think he already did though? Maybe twice?

Gah, if I could settle for the SZ1000's I could get them along with an amp and DAP right now...

Oh well, ~$150 more shouldn't take too much longer to get. No point in not buying big if you only need to do it once.

 What do you listen to?
I'm Hip-Hop, R&B, Motown

If your not a chronic basshead I'd rec the 1000. You'll only know a difference at honestly un healthy listening levels and maybe only with XX pads. With ANY other pads the diff is borderline placebo. You really need to be slamming 45Hz and the 1000 might seem to tone out while the 2000 hold it tighter. You cannot listen more than 10-15 minutes at a time like that though. If you plan on getting other pads since the stock ones suck for bass then you're really not gonna see a diff. Save the money...buy the sz1k and a set of 55xx off ebay for 15 bucks and you're set to slam assuming the amp and dap deliver what you order.

Coming attractions

Hi great thread, I just wanted to say that along with thanks for making and updating such an informative thread and I wish I wouldve seen this thread before I bought the ath-ws99
If I could make one suggestion
If you could add the price to your updated top 10 that would really make this thread that much more helpful
I understand prices fluctuate alot but if just at the time of update would be awesome

and while Ive got your attention I am thinking of upgrading these ath-ws99 for something with about the same or more punch with a bit more rumble
Im leaning toward the vmoda m100 ore the custom one pros
your opinion would be greatly appreciated

If you're looking for more bass, the m100s aren't really much better than the ws99s. Not sure about the custom one's

I don't see the problem with the XB800's. I use them everyday with Poweramp so I can utilize it's great EQ. I listen to Rap, Hip-Hop, Rock, Classical, and EDM all on these cans, but when I really want to push the boundaries with them, I go to Witch House and other sub genres of Trap music. Bass literally vibrates my ears and rattles my teeth.

After using both, the XB800s are horrible compared to the previous XB500/700/1000

how are the sz1000/2000 compared to the dt770 80ohm?  I'm thinking about selling my beyers and get a pair of sz. Is there a considerable amount of bass than the beyers?  I like the sound of the dt770 but sometimes i want my brain to melt from bass hits.

also source: pc>a/v amp> cans or pc, ipod, phone > e18> cans.

Definitely going to give it some thought. I listen to a very broad range of music, I mainly pick a day devoted to what I'm wanting. When I do listen to bass heavy songs, which for me are more often than other genres, I crank it as high as I can handle. If I saved the $150 now it could go toward the new T-PEOS alton200 IEM's I've been eyeing..

As for pads, I couldn't seem to find any xx's on Ebay or Amazon. I was more looking at the incredibly meaty pads posted a few pages back. Those look incredibly comfortable and bass delivering. Any idea on what they're called?

dt770 pro have a full rounded bass its almost like an echo bass its very good, the dt770 and sz's are 2 very different headphones the both do bass it jst depends what you want, you want something thats not fatiguing then stick with your 770's however if you want bass your brain to melt then you will have to get the sz's as they bully the dt770 pro's at bass.
