The Optimus had a poor camera but other than that I liked it, great screen for sunlight and nice and slim.

The headphone out could be better for sure but luckily E6 does improve the sound. Of course it's not the worst headphone out I've been listening by far. Camera could be better but it's manageable, works good enough outside with plenty of sunlight but inside and/with poor lightning conditions not so great. Must agree what you said about screen and appearances, 10/10 on those.
 
But it's getting old and slowish lately. I've been considering an update to dual or even quad core models. Quads cost a lot tho so maybe some budget dual like Sony Xperia L.

I'm always a year behind on phones. I only got the S3 in hopes of one day acquiring a V-MODA Vamp Verza and a Metallo case (definitely NOT budget-fi). There's also a Go-Dap specially designed for Android phones coming out soon so I may look into that. Funny thing is after I got the S3, a friend of mine gave me his old iPhone 4. Maybe I can snipe an original Vamp for cheap. The phone I actually use "as a phone" is the Galaxy Note 1.
