Earbuds Round-Up

Yes, I want to do that with transparent shells
Is there a particular reason for that? I'm guessing it's to reduce the brightness and increase the bass. Because I find that for some drivers, choking the airflow will just do that, but I'm not really certain if that's what you're doing.

I do this because I want to control the airflow through different methods

Thanks for the info. Maybe more details will be revealed as more people get the X3 model.

Edit: According to WoodyLuvr, in this post, he mentions that Onmyoji from 2020 and 2021 used aluminum shell. Onmyoji mid-year 2023 switched to titanium shell. Now X3 version Onmyoji late 2023 edition is back to aluminum shell.

I had have to write like below.

"Sorry, but all I could find was a review saying that the Temperament X3 diaphragm uses the same diaphragm as the Onmyoji 2.
The shell material is said to be aluminium, unlike the Onmyoji 2."

Is this the driver? The link on the DIY Google Sheet is broken, and I'm not sure how much I need to worry about copycats on AliExpress.

Also, can anyone tell me how easy it is to drive? I'd like to try it, since it sounds like it would be right up my alley, but my wife also just asked for a pair of buds (with purple cables. She sees the pretty buds I made and suddenly she's interested after all this time lol) so I need to make something she can drive with a simple USB-C dongle.

That's the one, and as far as I know there's only one 130Bery so find whichever shop has it the cheapest and order from there.

It's fairly easy to drive, takes a bit more power than average but no issues driven from a dongle.

I used to salvage cables from unused or broken IEMs like many others from the DIY Earbuds thread, but after being spoiled with detachable cables, I just get mine from XIHNS or other custom cable makers; they're priced competitively and last me longer than those no-name premade DIY cables. I'm also been thinking of making my own lol. Maybe you can ask @saldsald about it haha
On my to-do list is to make a bud that fits my VR headset. Currently I use a 65cm cable attached to my RW3000s, but this could be improved on, and it would be fun to make the cable for it myself. I'd want an L-shaped plug and maybe 45cm or so of cable.

Since the plug is on one side of the headset, from a physical perspective it would make sense to have the left side cable longer than the right. Since electrical signals travel at about 90% speed of light, I would think that this wouldn't produce audible channel imbalance, but I'm not sure about it.

I have used a lot of IEMs and earbuds with J cable, and I haven't detected any audio imbalance or latency, so I don't think differing cable length will affect audio quality.

Speaking of 130 beryllium this is my build with him. Almost basshead and with those good trebles 20240118_221044.jpg

That looks sweet. The muted green is really nice.

Those larger, stem-off-center shells are probably the best for my ear shape. Like the ones I used for @mt877's build. They can take a lot of tugging before they need adjustment.

I got the Traceless today. And I am pleasantly surprised. I mean there's a little bit of bass going on. Which makes the double bass in jazz sound great.

Where from here should I go? A rikubud?

And what size is the Monk Plus? It's the only bud that doesn't fall out of my ear. So I'm looking for more in that size

I grabbed the traceless with the c type plug to use with phone. It's not a bad bud at all. But yea...my rikubud saber3 are in a different league. He makes some with same shell as monk plus.
