What is the current IEM ranking for classical genres irrespective of price? The one in my signature ranks DFL.

I really like Elysium for classical..but I don't personally listen to enough classical for it to be one of the primary factors in my search and decision making. This great thread by @Wyville is a great place to start.

makin' me wanna hear this warbler thingy...

have you heard erlky?
Yes, I have. Tried it many months ago. A store was selling it used (it's sold now). I wasn't sure which setting it was. But it was pretty good. I especially liked its lush clean mids, and tight punchy bass. Fit and weight wasn't the most comfortable though.

You may either not like it, or love it. This bird excels more in midrange, with its excellent balance between lower and upper-mids, and natural organic timbre. It also has this smooth treble. Treble however is not that very extended, and bass is minimal. Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure. But for those who do, they adore it. A midrange specialist, like Ely in a way

nice, thanks for the description.

funny it’s also named after a bird.

That seems to be the consensus...namely that Ely seems to be one of the IEMs that compliments the bird and isn't redundant beside it.
I would disagree. I own both, and I would say no need for Ely along with Bird. I don’t see the Ely adding anything the Bird cannot provide. This is not a knock on Ely, they just do not feel complimentary in any way. My Ely is a custom, so it is in a sense complimentary for me when I require greater isolation. But that is about it at the moment. It is also gorgeous.

I'm aware of that but, with respect, I don't get the sense that our tastes in a general sense are all that alike and I've talked to a number of people who have heard both and who hold a contrary view to your own. As with everything, YMMV etc.

I love the Elysium. It’s an IEM I even ordered in custom right before COVID lockdowns but never ended up getting because of not being able to get impressions. One of my initial thoughts when hearing the Traillii was that it was literally a “much better Elysium” and it’s something I still stand by. I haven’t heard the Ely in just under a year but I remember it very well. I still have those same thoughts.

Just to add, yes this will be different for everyone. The changes may not be what other people prefer. The Elysium pushes its mid range more forward compared to Traillii and has quite the lower treble sparkle which came off as crunchy to me. If that is something someone prefers they may not view it the same way I do. But objectively and based on my preferences I don’t think the Elysium does anything better than the Traillii.

I actually recieved Elysium 1 day before my Traillii arrived. I hadn't heard the Elysium in about a year since demo-ing them. As nice as they are, I'm not too into mid-emphasis and will almost certainly be selling them soon. I will keep a number of other TOTL IEMs to compliment the Traillii, but not the Elysium. Certainly if I enjoyed mids more, I would probably consider keeping the Elysium. Great IEM.

That might be true. Hopefully you will get to hear them for yourself ( at length, not just for a few minutes) one day. I would be interested to see if you would still feel the same. I think @aaf evo and @toaster feel the same though.

Anyway, as always, enjoy.

Cheers man...it's all an academic exercise for me anyway as unless an epoch making deal appears on the used market I can't see myself owning one any time soon. I'd absolutely jump at the chance to hear one though and hopefully our world will normalize enough in the next year to make that possible somehow. @toaster has already extended me a standing invite to hear his Erlky if I'm ever in his neck of the woods...perhaps that would extend to the bird too :D. As always, happy listening.

I was thinking of Ely before getting the Bird as I love mids, but I have to say, unless I can find Ely for cheap, there's enough mid activity there for me in the tuning to look for a different complimentary IEM. Probably one emphasising bass, preferably DD and, if possible a relatively more forward and more weighty mid section compared to the bird.

Its all just a matter of taste. At the same time, there's many that will be indefinitely happy with the Traillii, as its quite simply a master of balance.

Pardon me, I'm trying to learn English, and curious in the previous exchanges can we use the word 'complimentary' instead of 'complementary' in those cases? Are they pronounced the same by native speakers?
