The price of the Kogan and sound quality can't be beat, unless they start giving them away in boxes of cereal like LCD watches.

Is it cheaper than a Clip+? Does it sound better than a Clip+ Does it have a card slot?? A Clip+ at $35 is hard to beat. Some spend even less and get a refurb one. My definition of budget is the player, earphones, and a 32GB memory card to put in the player for under $80 total.

Kogan is $29.

Quoted by others to sound better than DX50 and Studio V units.

Oh, and yes supports micro sd slot.

Cheaper than a Clip
IMO sounds better than my rockboxed clip
And it definitely has a microSD slot.

$25AUD Kogan PLayer
$25-30AUD 32GB SDcard
$25AUD for Xiaomi Pistons

Just squeaks in under $80, maybe a bit more if you need to pay for shipping. Annoying that the flash memory could potentially be the most expensive component though :frowning2:

fiio x1 definitely is the best in terms of portable gear <200

Yes but how does it compare to a refurbished clip that can be had for $20 or so and a 64gb micro sd which I've seen on sale for $30 or so lately?   If I carried a fiio x1 it would need a pocket to itself.  If I carried the clip it could fit in the same altoids tin as the iems.  Still thinking of getting one for around the house.

Woot well under budget then... even with the jacked up price for the SDcard locally, silly Aussie tax for.. well.. everything..

Would love it to have Rockbox... it's primary failing is the UI imo. functional, but not.. intuitive, i particularly have trouble with making playlists on the fly, something that RB does particularly well.

I read somewhere that CTC Audio was planning on picking it up under their own brand, might have been in the Kogan thread. Hopefully that happens, it's a great little player and, factoring in the price, a killer deal for the SQ.

Have yet to audition an X1 though... might have to make a trip down to Jaben sometime lol

In the US a Sandisk 32GB class 4 card is  $17 with free shipping(B&H).
The Kogan can't run Rockbox though. Who in the US sells Kogan?
$80 US = AUD$91.10

LG Tribute msrp $80 paid $40 + sound magic e10 msrp 30-35 paid $12 + 32gb micro sd I had lying around.  Really digging this setup.  Phone is so cheap I can man handle it and not worry about it breaking.
