Earbuds Round-Up

Best price I could come up with is $177 with a few coupons and tax. That’s from the NiceHCK Audio Store @ $196.84 - $16 Spend & Save coupons, $15 AliExpress 11.11 coupon, and a $2 credit I had. It’s a reliable store and a great price. I think there’s a few hours left.
Do you mean few days? I am still indecisive on this one.

Hey all, I've seen a couple good reviews on the TGXEar Serratus. Currently the Serratus Black Sand is in the store and can't decide if I should buy. The reviews make it really tempting. I currently own a pair of the Moondrop Chaconnes and Fiio FF3s. I like both of them but they do have issues with falling out after ~an hour. Will the SBS be noticeably different to the Chaconnes? I bought some KBear Stellars to try the fit of the mx500 shells and those seem to fit good, so that's another driver.
If mx500 shells are comfortable for you, and you want to try TGXEAR house sound, then SBS is a great start. I'm fairly sure that, based on review comparisons, Serratus / SBS will outperform FF3s in tonality and technicalities. I'm not sure about the Chaconne - that's more treble forward, right? So at the very least, the SBS will complement your sets.

Just wonder what source(s) and how much output power do you guys usually drive your high impedance buds with and at?
Assuming you mean high impedance low sensitivity drivers? @samandhi normally has excellent advice on this but you'll need to share your driver details.

I have sources that output 0.4 to 1.7W.

My most wicked earbud is the Yinman 600 ohm (87 dB/mW sensitivity and 600 ohm impedance). Sometimes the impedance is not the main issue, but more of the low sensitivity.

Only 1 dongle can drive the Yinmans acceptably, and that is the Fiio KA13 (requires desktop mode, 4.4mm with 550 mW output!)

Otherwise, all the other dongles are not able to (it is not a matter of volume but you get suboptimal soundstage/dynamics and the bass is flabby and one-noted when underpowered). My main desktop source is the Schiit Asgard 3 and that drives the Yinman well too on high gain. A budget desktop amp (Fiio K11) can also power these puppies well.

Have you heard of E1DA 9038? Its a tiny dongle DAC amp series from a DIY/small family business, but holy cow it's powerful. I think it's >340mW at 30 Ohm with 2.5mm Bal.

Impressive little device!

After reading this I did some more research about it I'm such a sucker for boutique stuff and it's well made too
The founder and key engineer in there is a Russia born guy now living in China called Ivan Khlyupin. He is an audio enthusiast, and an electrical engineer. Ivan is in charge of all hardware invention / designing, and his elder son takes care of relevant software development. The rest is chinese-cost and sadly chinese-quality contract manufacturing, which is why Ivan (literally) technically assesses and calibrates each sample one by one while or after assembly.

It is interesting. AliExpress says 93 dB/mW. What is your information source?

From the boss @WoodyLuvr : https://www.head-fi.org/threads/earbuds-round-up.441400/page-4687#post-17607340

Who spoke to the maker of the buds. The updated driver is 87 dB/mW, compared to the older ones using 93 dB/mW.

The Aliexpress link is very outdated. They are still showing a detachable MMCX version but all the new Yinmans are fixed cable.

I just posted this pic in the Portable Amps > KAEI Tap-1 thread and thought what the heck, share some 500Ω DIY earbud fun here too. Those buds are an older build, but they sound oh so good.

Currently I find myself swapping between the two when I want to enjoy the vocals/instruments more or want more bass. Seems like the SBS will replace the role of the FF3 for me here. Thanks for the input. Also thanks to some of the folks posting here, I've been made aware the Yincrow Rw3000 have a really good sale going on right now. These might be more of a risk on the fit... Need to read some reviews and make a decision before the sale ends tomorrow
