Haydn piano sonatas
Try the Naxos recordings of Jeno Jando. Excellent discs, as usual, from the low-priced Naxos label, and great performance of the sonatas. -
Stereo sound for one ear
I am helping a hallmate of mine find a headphone, but he's hard of hearing on the left side. We're interested in a headphone experience that will provide a stereo sound for one ear. A conversion of the sound from stereo to mono would accomplish this, but a balance dial would not, because that...- Cap'n Dan

Where do you shop for blank media?
There's a nice rebate on a TDK 50-pack of CD-R from Staples (ending August 2)... it winds up to be less than 3 dollars.- Cap'n Dan

What to use to remove glue
Try Chapstick/Blistex or Vaseline or another petroleum-based cream. It will be a solvent for the adhesive. Might not work with super-powerful adhesives, but probably would with normal tapes.- Cap'n Dan

small ears
Same here. Headphones that are supposed to be supra-aural wind up going completely around me ears! My ears don't seem get sore anymore with my SR-225s, but they did in the beginning. I'm not sure what I want to do about pads. I like the sound, so I'm reluctant to change it. Perhaps having my...- Cap'n Dan

Eliminating Grado Cord Noise
Yeah, I noticed that. Doesn't bother me too much because my head's pretty still, usually, but I do hear it sometimes. I'd be reluctant to wrap duct tape around it ...but maybe some "milder" tape would work? They designed it like that because it's much stronger than mounting it in the...- Cap'n Dan

RANT: Who the Hell is Everyone on the Phone with?
Yep. It's pretty hilarious. You know what's great: I can identify on the road what a "telephone turn" is... indicated by some slow, or badly aimed, or jerky turn. I say "Oh, that's gotta be a telephone"... and then the person drives by, and yep... he or she is on the phone. Gotta love it.- Cap'n Dan

Some Speakers Demos at CSA in Montclair
Just got back from CSA Audio in Montclair, NJ. Researching turntables, mainly, but got to hear some speakers, too. Dynaudio Temptations, driven by an Accuphase amp... very cool speakers; stellar smoothness and transparency. I didn't do enough of a listen on those to make any further...- Cap'n Dan

Can I get by without ever buying an amp?
For your 32ohm 'phones, you could go without an amp. Certain ones, however, even though they are 32ohms, need amps to sound their best (I'm speaking of Grados specifically--they are all 32ohm). The RS-1, for example, can be driven adequately without an amp, but it wouldn't have the depth and...- Cap'n Dan

Bose Wave radio rated #1 in Consumer Reports
I've heard the Bose Wave extensively, and I OWN the Tivoli PAL. The Bose is OK, but the Tivoli is just downright better. Impact, depth, precision, even bass. The Tivoli is a superb piece of technology, and I applaud Henry Kloss. The Bose is not, and I do not applaud that pathetic company.- Cap'n Dan

Grado wires
I got the 225s a few days ago, and just noticed that the wires going into the housings are loose--I'm able to push them in a ways. Honestly, I can't remember whether they were like this upon initial inspection, but I am sure that nothing has happened to them other than wearing them. There are no...- Cap'n Dan

Best opening to a song?
Sweet Child of Mine - Guns 'n Roses ...that intensely "sweet" guitar arpeggiation Also, Also Sprach Tharathustra - Richard Strauss ...not because of its over(mis)use, but because of its actual greatness And how about the opening to the last act of Die Walkure by Wagner? -
Panasonic SL-CT500 CD/MP3 Player
Ahoy! http://www.audiocubes.com/product_in...roducts_id=421 The fact that the output is 8mW/channel seems interesting... do you folks think that the sound would be better that way? Or is it just more power but not necessarily better quality? It seems like a good value. Any ideas on this...- Cap'n Dan

cyclists at head-fi?
I ride a Cannondale F500... it's a lower-end model from the mountain bike line. I ride mainly on roads, but it's nice having the ruggedness/durability/low-speed gearing (27-speed) in my hilly, potholed suburban area. It's a nice bike, anyway.- Cap'n Dan
