Thanks, picked up a pair for a Xmas gift.

Cool!  It beats Amazon's price by a fair bit so that's a win.  I'd get one as I tend to like AKG, but I just blew the last of my "treat myself" budget on the $75 UE 700 (I finally succumbed).

ah DAMN, i ordered a set of the turbine golds a few hours ago, but i do like my bass, had to sell some etys cause of the lack of bass, but ive been very happy so far with my HD25s, Miles Davis tribute (reason i got the golds), and Westone 3. have you heard any of these?  where do the UE700s fall?  I actually am going to be returning my vmoda m80s because i dont feel there is enough clarity in the highs, hoping the m100 will outshine these if not will be returning these as well and keeping the HD25.

Hello - sorry for the late reply I have been away for a few days.

Yes I have HD25 and W3 too, though I have not heard MDT yet, W3 is similar to TF10 but W3 mid is not as recessed, though its treble is not as good as TF10's

IMHO, W3 is slightly better than UE700, bigger impact bass, more detailed, though I like UE700's treble better than W3

I have the Uptowns and the JVC S500's, both of which I am very happy with. I was thinking that my next foray would be into a full size open set, but that deal is definitely tempting!

Any opinions on which is better for rock? MEElectronics A161 or  Ultimate Ears 700? Both similar sales price on Amazon. Leaning toward the 700's only because of the double armatures (if i'm not mistaken about this), but not sure if that necessarily makes the sound better.

Just bought both of these recently and I preferred the UE700 by a healthy margin. I didn't care for the A161's treble/upper mid-range. They are very detailed...but almost artificially so. I returned them.

I find the UE700 to be very good all-arounders, but I may return them too.  I need to listen more, but right now I am not finding them different enough from the XBA-1 to keep both.  And I have the XBA-3 coming soon.

(clearly, I have been hanging out in this thread too much lately!)

I saw the XBA-3 on sale yesterday, but didn't pull the trigger. Now I regret that I didn't....maybe, I should wait until something like that resurfaces. I'm thinking, based on your answer, that even the 700's may be no better than what i already have. By the way, I recently bought the Meelectronics CC51 under $20, which, for the price is a very good performer.
