Earbuds Round-Up

It's been frustrating reading about all the praise for the Yinmans as I agree that they sound wonderful, when working. I've even thought about trying another pair but am decidedly leary.

I wonder if any others have had QC issues with them?

Sorry for the long post.

I've had the Yinman 600 ohm for almost 6 months, using it every week in my rotation and so far haven't had any QC issues (touch wood).

I'm sorry to hear about yours and @prakasitp 's issues, seems like an unlucky CHIFI luck of the draw thing. Would u be able to send it back to the seller for repairs or perhaps ask one of our helpful forum members here to see if it is repairable?

Same store. But finally, I got my Yinman 600ohm. 😁😁

Undortunately😓😓, once i hook up with Mojo2 then I experience the crack sound when it goes to heavy bass and high pitch music note. Only on left side though
.
Does anyone experience this issue? or anyway to solve it?

Hope there is a way for replacement.

I haven't posted here in a while as I got really frustrated with my set of Yinman 600s not working and just bailed on the thread for several months. I've had problems with other earbuds also which contributed to the frustration but the fact that the Yinmans were significantly more expensive upped the annoyance factor.

I bought my pair from the same store and they went bad on me after owning - but not using them much - for a few (maybe several) months. In my case it was the face of the right earbud loosening up from the rear and the channel cutting out. Then a while later the right channel came back on and the left one cut out. Unfortunately I didn't consider that the seller would do anything about it (at least without my shipping them back which I didn't think would be worthwhile) and just tuned out.

A few members here offered to try to fix them for me and I'd like to thank them now, which I neglected to do previously. I figured I'd try to get a tech to look at them locally, to not burden anyone if I didn't have to. I haven't yet done so but will shortly as I have a major piece of equipment that also has to be repaired.

Gosh, that is sad to hear. Unfortunately, and very sad to say, we all must accept a level of risk when purchasing anything from China. It is a real bummer at any cost... whether ~US$150 for the Yinman 600 in your case or the ~US$600 Ks Bell-Ti that royally failed in my case 🤮.

Since 2016 when Yinman (Longyao-Yinman) launched these have been the only two (2) serious QC cases reported that I know of thus far... plus one (1) case of the wrong impedance model version being sent to a customer (don't know if it was a nefarious "bait n' switch" event or a genuine accidental mix-up at the store and/or maker-brand level).

That all said, we will need to carefully monitor this and see if any more such QC issues and/or mix-ups occur especially when the new model lines launch (metal shelled 150Ω coming any day now and the reminder of the series in August/September timeframe).

Contacted the seller, they said “burn” the buds for a while…. 😅😅😅😅

I have only Mojo2 that has enough power to drive the Yinman 600ohm. I will try to find other sources 🥲🥲
This doesn't sound like an issue that will go away with burn in. More like driver distortion or failure?
Concur with @ian91 this sounds like driver failure which will need to be repaired/replaced.

I've been trying out so many buds in the last 6 months it's been kinda crazy. There's a few standouts though. My current obsessions are TGX Ear Sunniva and Rikubuds Alter Rider 3 (releasing soon). If looking at lower prices I like Rikubuds Lancer 1, Nice HCK EB2S Pro and Yincrow X6. I have a video where I went over most of the buds I've tried this year as well

Great video and worthy insight on flatheads. There's so much variety out there and quality is so variable it's hard to know where to start. From the sets on your list that I've heard, I largely agree with their placement. I'm also glad to see the love of my life, APWS, up there near the top.

Did you try to suck on the earbuds?
I am not joking = often the driver diaphragms can get distorted by changes in altitude during shipping and dent up. ( voice coil is attached to the diaphragms so that can get funny also.... )
Carefully lightly sucking on them can undo those dents.
It's free to try and has often worked for people in the past.
Obviously if the driver is beyond hope then it won't do anything.

***Not followed this thread recently so maybe you tried it already.
Best of luck with that issue.

Sorry to hear that your Yinman 600 set has defect as well and yes it‘s so frustrate reading all the praise and once we get hold of them then we can’t appreciate. 🤬🤬

By the way, have you have a chance contact the seller about repairing the set? What did they say?

Hope you find a way to get them fix soon.

Thanks for the tip!! and I did it already 😅😅😅😅

i knew this “technique“ from another forum earlier. Last year, I got similar defect with Ucotech ES-P1, I tried this and It worked but nor perfect, the crack sound still come up time to time. However, that pair still working until now.

Unfortunately, it‘s not working this time. I did try several time though. 🥲🥲

The APWS is subjectively the best transducer I've ever heard and the only piece of gear that gives me FOMO for not owning. I would love to own it one day.

It's my 'best' too, but has its own genre caveats for my tastes. Thankfully, there are other options to compliment it where it falls short.

Also, start saving and just reach out to Lee when you have enough aside! No reason to have FOMO forever.

Comparable to MoonDrop 水月雨 Chaconne 夏空 being a very good earbud (at what it does best) but still remains being only a one or two trick pony... or more so? How genre/signature specific do you find the APWS?

The APWS and the Zen Shining Limited Edition (not the Zen SU - Shining Ultra/Ultimate) are the only two (2) god tier Venture Electronic models that I have yet to have had the pleasure to listen to. Below that I am still waiting to hear the lesser tiered models the Master, Zen SL, and Zen 3.0. Hopefully soon.

Been a while since I've seen an earbud like tws. This is more like a speaker that hangs outside the ear canal and passes through the center port of the ear hook.

I think it's possible it'll be better than the sony linkbuds.

I find it very genre specific. Vocal genres - folk, singer/songwriter, choral, vocal jazz are the greatest strength of APWS. Followed by those with instrumental focus with strings/piano/woodwind/brass, caveat being the flatter bass & light impact presenting bass strings and drums much further back in the mix. I really wouldn't choose the APWS if my preferred genres were heavy on percussion or bass as it lacks musicality (pop/rock/metal/electronic/hip hop are a complete no-go). For me, at a push it handles orchestral but a lot will want more percussive weight and low end for a complete picture.

So yes, quite the specialist. However if, like me, your library comprises of 90% ECM-label jazz/acoustic/small ensemble, it really is a special specialist. For vocals it isolates and lifts them up more than any earbud I have heard (even Blur Beautiful Witch & MX64 STE aPs) being totally invested in the midrange and unabashedly earbud sounding for that reason. It's not balanced and it does apply it's own distinct flavour to my library but this flavour is perfectly to my taste.

Note, my impressions (and review) are from the DX300 Amp11Mk1 that is itself vocal-forward. I don't feel that I underpowered it but will add an addendum to my review once I have had a chance to test it on a desktop amp (Defiant).

I'm not sure how you would find it @WoodyLuvr, I think the thinness and upper midrange focus will be quite off-putting for you. Nonetheless, I hope you get to hear it so you can place it in that encyclopaedic brain of yours for future reference!
