Favorite Violin Concerto - Composer and Performance
I think the thing about concertos are that the greatest magic comes from those playing it. That said, I prefer the old violin virtuosos such as Jascha Heifetz, David Oistrakh, Fritz Kreisler, Leonid Kogan, etc... As for major violin concertos, I cannot live without the Brahms D Major, Brahms...- MaxHeifetz

lookin for great clip ons--need help
If you're looking for 'phones that would be good for long plane rides...most earbuds' sounds will be drowned out by the plane engine. If plane rides are your thing, look for a pair of in ear phones such as the Shure E2 or the Etymotic 4P/4S but be prepared to kill your wallet.- MaxHeifetz

FYI: Grado SR 225's new @ 134.99
Argh, the HD580 deal seems appealing...but they were actually sold at Newegg for $150 before so that makes them far less appealing than what I was intending to receive. I still say, if you want to change the order, fight for free, fast shipping. Otherwise, convince them to try to honor the deals.- MaxHeifetz

They did honor a few orders already. Is their excuse valid for not honoring the rest?!- MaxHeifetz

FYI: Grado SR 225's new @ 134.99
I don't know about you guys, but I am mad and annoyed (I guess this is what great anticipation turns into...for a specific set of phones). I e-mailed her back saying that I can change to the HD580, but that free shipping/faster shipping for discount price would probably heal some of the wounds...- MaxHeifetz

will i like john lennon?
Depends on what type of person you are. If you enjoy atonal music and experimentation, you'll probably like all his songs. If you're just a guy searching for good, catchy melodies and lyrics you're probably not going to like half of his weird stuff (I love you Yoko...I love you John...I love you...- MaxHeifetz

Yoko Kanno's song writing and Sakamoto Maaya
Don't know if this is the most appropriate place to discuss JPop, but here goes. Judging from Yoko Kanno's 2 recent songs, Hemisphere and Tune the Rainbow, both sung by Sakamoto Maaya, it seems as if her song writing is much improved from before. The main theme of each is actually hidden after a...- MaxHeifetz

More specific Grado question
Hello again, For my Ipod, I was wondering if I should start with the SR80's or just jump the ladder to the SR225's. Would there be any noticable difference on that unit? Thanks.- MaxHeifetz

Impedance and Sound Quality
Hi guys, I was wondering about the correlation between the impedance and sound quality of headphones. If I understand correctly, impedance is just defined as "total resistance" or "almost "resistance plus the resistivity of the capacitors and the inductors. How would this have any connection...- MaxHeifetz

A funny description of the HD25-1...
www.music123.com has the HD25-1 listed as "The HD 25 SP-1 is a pair of closed dynamic headphones for persons with severe hearing impairment." Is this intended to mean anything?- MaxHeifetz

How about trying Jim Crochie on for size? Time in a Bottle, Cats in the Cradle, and Bad, Bad Leroy Brown are all classics. Oh yeah, I scrolled up and down and saw that nobody recommended Billy Joel.- MaxHeifetz

What are the best Jacqueline Du Pre performances?
I still find it strange how Du Pre and Rostoprovich are mentioned frequently whenever cello is discussed on this board and Gregor Piatigorsky, a very fine cellist, was hardly ever mentioned. I think his artistry deserves much attention.- MaxHeifetz

holy kugel batman, ety-4s no bass
After these comments I'm still wondering if that "deep non-viseral" bass partially originates from the deep holes in your pockets (by purchasing the Ety's of course). I'm not saying you're all blindly biased but just very subjective.- MaxHeifetz

Woods for headphones
I was just wondering if headphone makers should use spruce and maple in the production of their top of the line headphones instead of what they already use.
