USB Audio Player PRO (UAPP): 24- and 32-bit playback, ubiquitous USB audio support for Android

@Davy
I have the latest version I believe since there is no update option in google play.
I will check it once again... It is not a major issue for me so I am not going to fret over it. :)

BTW, the android tab with UAPP is really great as a transport. I feel it is slightly better than my Windows PC running JMC.
The noise floor disappeared and there is less of compression. There is a sense of more space around the instruments and the front to back soundstage has extended.
The decay of percussion instruments sound rich on the tab which are rather muffled on PC.

Now I am going to set up the tab/network to access music files on wifi.
Looking forward to get guided by Head-fi'ers if I am stuck.

  1. @Theogenes

In your wifi setup, will it be possible to view the files on UAPP (Media Playback or Folder Playback) or we have to play each file from MobileFun explorer?

As it currently stands, you have to play each file from Mobile Fun. Not an optimal setup, I know, but that's what we've got for now.

Hi,

I tried this new version (the trial one) :

-the album is sorted by alphabetic order: how to reset the album's original order. (bug ?)

-as you can see, album art is in background. But if I select a song, Album Art disappears in the Now Playing Screen.

- To move the volume, I must select Parameters / Mixer and move the slider : anyway to use the phone volume control or put the slide in the playing screen ?

-what is mode DJ ?

The volume slider is in the playing screen (unless you removed it using the preferences): it's the slider at the right.

Just received a ifi nano iDSD... now what to do with that?

Ok ty, I had not seen it : UAPP is working nice with my Hifimediy U2 asynchronous.
Before I buy the full version, any answers about alphabetic order rather than album order :
other try :
- copy Adele 19 album on the sd card
- open UAPP
- select "Media database
- choose Adele 19
- screenshoot :

- as you can see the titles are in alphabetic order.
-in folder playback, order is correct :

Anyway to sort the titles or is that  a bug ?

Last question before I buy the full version
ksc75smile.gif
: when I listen to 16 bit file does the player uses 16 bit or 24 bit to transfer the data to the DAC ?

Hmm.. I think I have that album here, I'll see what the problem is.
UAPP always uses the highest resolution of your DAC, regardless of file resolution.

Nah, I think I'm just going to support playing .dsd files directly if I find enough information on it!

To convert on-the-fly or not to convert?
To save processing power by avoiding on-the-fly conversion or not to save?

"DSD playback
I’ve been asked recently, do the Theorem and Solo series support DSD playback?
Do they handle both DSD 2.8/64 as well as DSD 5.6/64?
The answer is yes!
On the Apple device a player app is required (we like the free Onkyo Player app) as well as on the Android device (we like the USB Audio Player Pro app $10)."
http://www.cypherlabs.com/dsd-playback/

"You can download (for free) and use the software called DSD2FLAC in a computer which is currently only available for MAC and Linux. A DoPFLAC file can be created from a DSD file regardless of DSD64 or DSD128 using this software.
The DoPFLAC file is essentially a file containing the original DSD data.
Just transfer the converted DoPFLAC file in your Android phone and play it through USB Audio Player Pro. USB Audio Player Pro will replay it as normal thinking it is a PCM, iDSD will automatically detect the DSD data within and replay it as the original DSD file natively."

Anyway, there is a DSD to PCM converter written in Java.

DanBa, correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe the Cypherlabs products are playing DSD native though. I've got the Onkyo Player into the Theorem 720 & dB and both default back to PCM (i.e. DSD converted to PCM on the iPad) - unlike the Onkyo Player playing on Herus which is actually DSD native (and audibly noticeably different from PCM conversion). I haven't had a chance to mail DavidM about it yet.

As far as I understand, DSD can be converted to legacy PCM (16/44.1, 24/96, ..., 24/352.8) or DoP (DSD over PCM).
And apparently, UAPP can play DoPFLAC and output a DoP stream.

About DoP:
"Since the Apple OS only allows a PCM path we have to find a way to put DSD audio data into PCM frames that then get sent via the native USB driver." [DoP open standard]

About Herus & DSD:
"HERUS SPECIFICATIONS
Supported Formats PCM, DXD and DSD64/128   Uses DoP protocol 1.1 over USB for DSD"
