I predict FiiO X5 a run off success, already looking sharp and if they implement it right, will be nice to own. I really wanna experience it to compare it to what I have, I believe I won't be disappointed. The X7 is the one I am closely watching as this one will have a fire power dac. Hope the UI will be on part with the internals. :)

For those who really can't take a mechanical wheel and believe it will suck the solar system into the black hole, just don't buy it. If you are however willing to take a risk, then report back your finding when you actually have a chance to use it properly. If you are not willing to gamble, then let other do it for you and wait patiently for them to report back. The design has been finalized, whether any of us likes it or not will not change it. You just need to decide whether it is worth your money or not based on what you have seen so far. Keep complaining about thing you have not used or experienced first hand certainly doesn't add any useful information to the discussion.

Lets move on.

I'm dying to get my hands on this. I passed on the X3, I'll not pass this smexy beast up.

I almost bought an X3 the other day since my last DAP died and I'm relying on a Sansa Clip in the mean time, trying my hardest to not buy an X3 and hold out for an X5. The X5 can't arrive quick enough for me.

Unfortunately as with any product, you can't please everyone. The team at FiiO have made their decisions, I like to think for the better.

I'm sure it'll be a good piece of kit
I'm sure there'll be something even better just around the corner...

Nothing last forever. As long as it works well for its warranty period, it's all good.

Now is there any way to own a unit outside of China or are we all really stuck with waiting till March 2014?

Tell me about it... have been scouring the web for any signs of "we've got some Fiio X5 to let go" sites.
Am going bonkers waiting for this baby.

I visit Taobao and Fiio board on a daily basis for the X5 to come..........

My E12 needs a new companion, X3 is too small for the stack,.....

I had a go of the X5 today at the e-earphone show in Tokyo with my FitEar Parterres.

My impressions:

  1. The build quality is EXCELLENT.
  2. The buttons need labels. While it is possible to get used to knowing what they do, it means every time you pass the device to someone to listen with they wont have a clue how to operate it and you have to explain it to them.
  3. The UI is fast.
  4. Dual micro-SD cards is very handy.
  5. I'm not sure why, but the unit I had locked up trying to play a song and was very sluggish until it was restarted.
  6. The scroll wheel only works to adjust volume after one of the side volume buttons is pressed.
  7. It recognised my microSD card and its contents pretty fast. I'm not sure about playlists though yet.
  8. The sound quality is good. Not AK120 good, but possibly not too far off. I didn't A/B them as I don't have one and everyone I did know who had one sold theirs or wasn't at the show, but I felt it was slightly less clear than I was used to with the iRiver devices.
  9. I didn't test or look at any other functionality in the unit.

Sadly today I didn't get a chance to. The only time I did was yesterday. But I did ask one or two other HF members to have a listen to it.
