Headphones you regretted buying the most
Mar 17, 2012 at 11:37 PM Post #946 of 1,852
Ok, I've been reading the whole thread , and tried to count how much each headphone are regretted. This is not a rigorous counting , because:
- some guy posted multiple time that they disliked a headphone (bilavideo, with bose in ears for instance). I  tried to disregard duplicate.
- I tried to skip  post from people that have already posted.
- some statement were ambiguous, about if they were  happy/unhappy, about a headphone, I  skipped.
- sometimes it's hard to make distinction between variation of model , because no detail is provided. For instance when someone disliked the dt880 , he doesn't always precise if it's the 250 or 600 ohm version. In this case, I  assimilate models to a single headphone.

I  only kept models, with at least 4 regrets.
So here's the list with decreasing number of regrets. Regrets number indicated after model.

I have an HD595 and a coworker has an HD598.  From my extended experience with the HD595 and brief experience with the HD598, I can say that I regret the HD595... and I don't think I would regret the HD598.

No comparison, had both.  598 kicks 595 ass.  You can even open up the phones to see what's different.  If they sound the same to you (not you ^) either you listen below library levels or your chain needs an upgrade.

To the person w/o the HFI580, you realize that's a 50mm studio monitor for bass guitar and drums!

Still the only Ultrasone I like, especially for electronic.

Regretted buying the Focal Spirit One headphones. Just awful and nearly $300. They are going back.

Denon AH-1001K

Purchased 4 years ago.  Wanted to hear what a closed cans sounded like.  Ugh.  Echo-y, thin, anemic, cavern-like?  Still in storage somewhere.  Never used since.

Read that the Creative Aurana Live! is a clone of this.  Not sure how that pair of headphone got on the Head-Fi holiday gift buying guide.

The LCD-2v1, IMO the sound was OK, not great, and I found them uncomfortable, way too heavy. The big downer was I sold my D7000 which I really liked to buy them. I recently sold the LCD-2 and bought another D7000, I'm a happy camper.

That's a good mentality to have. If you learn from every mistake and make the most of every situation you needn't regret a thing.

thanks. i tend to be pretty open minded and mellow bout things most of the time and don't let things get to me.

Buying all those cheap skullcandy headphones and earbuds... I've spent at least 150-200$ on skullcandy products all of which are broken.
(1 pair of hesh headphones, 1 pair of FMJ earbuds, 3 pairs of smokin buds and a pair of holuas which all had cable problems and the headband snapped on the headphones from regular use...)

UE triple.fi10. Muddled incoherent mess most of the time. Unfortunately I purchased them on the strength of rave reviews here then I realized the median age of members!

they could be EQed into something almost ok but there is a reason i sold my freebie set and the others are in a drawer
