Does anyone have any insight on whether the new solo -db will work with the galaxy note2? The solo is the best sounding portable dac out right now right? The current one is only for idevices but the new one will work with pc's.

This should help :-

http://cypherlabs.com/product#product-comparison-tab

And actually there's two devices on the market that can work with iDevice and USB Audio on the market at the moment - VentureCraft Go-DAP X and Sony PHA-1. When the -dB gets released it'll be the 3rd.

Whether the Solo is the best sounding is entirely subjective.

Bold: new addition to the list

So far, like the quad-core Exynos powered Galaxy S III, the new quad-core Exynos powered Samsung Galaxy Note II can work with the FiiO E7, the iBasso D12, Leckerton UHA-6S MKII, the ODAC and the VentureCraft Go-Dap X; has some issue with the HeadAmp Pico; and doesn’t work with the FiiO E17.

So, in regard to standard USB audio, the behaviour of the Galaxy Note II is likely identical to the behaviour of the Galaxy SIII.

If I understand the following XDA thread correctly, the standard Galaxy Nexus desktop pogo dock will output digital audio:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1851321

Now this is certainly not "portable", and it is not USB audio, but for home listening it might be quite nice.  As I have the Galaxy Nexus and this dock, I am seriously thinking about picking up something like the Fiio 17....

Cheers

you can use USB AUO on the galaxy nexus with the GLaDOS kernel http://rootzwiki.com/topic/14685-kernel27-jul-glados-v20-for-jb/#entry367718

When connecting an external amp/dac to the gs3 and note 2, do you HAVE to use an otg cable or is there a way to connect them with just ONE cable?

You have to have a USB OTG (host) cable. Actually not sure if you can get them with male connectors at each end, which would spare a cable... Might take a look...

Oct 20, 2012 at 4:34 PM Post #567 of 9,526
About 3 pages back someone posted about a dozen links to cables that do that

Yep, a dozen links to male:male cables that aren't USB OTG ones and won't work.

I see later someone did post a single cable with male:male and one end being an OTG/host connection. Will grab one of those.

VentureCraft is selling their short microUSB<->microUSB cable (10 cm in length) pretty much specifically for the Galaxy S3 <-> Go-DAP X :-

http://venturecraft.jp/gadget_jp/

(Scroll to the 2nd item of the news).

I posted a picture of the setup with the cable on post #324. It's now in production. They're not cheap though at Y1980 (USD$25.10).

I can't find the order page for the cable on their website, could you direct me to it? Thanks.
