Looking for a portable upgrade from the Sennheiser PX 100-II that sounds more balanced and neutral
I agree with what's written on the PX 100-II product page that these headphones tend to sound like the mids and treble are a little veiled. The bass is indeed the frequency that stands out the most and I was hoping to upgrade to a portable pair that comes across as more balanced and neutral. ...- lastdodobird

Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 speakers powered by a Dared MP-5 - what's the consequence of being underpowered?
Hi. I've just been gifted with a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 speakers, and I want to use them... but since I'm a headphone person, the only amp I have to use for powering them is a Dared MP-5. The Wharfedales' recommended wattage is 20 - 100w. The Dared's power is 13w. So I'm...- lastdodobird

Should the PC volume controls be automatically disabled when using my USB-DAC?
Just something a friend pointed out recently: That I'm still able to control my PC volume via foobar and via the taskbar volume control (only using the Wave slider though) even though the USB DAC is already connected to the PC. My listening chain is currently: PC ---> DAC ---> AMP --->...- lastdodobird

Better price-for-performance item in general: Mini^3 or Ibasso D3?
I know that a lot more things are involved than just saying this amp is better than that amp... but if I break down the details to the specifics, a lot of people probably won't reply since they haven't tried a particular setup/item in the chain yet. So... I wanted to know which of these two...- lastdodobird

Beyerdynamic DT770/250 ('05) = too heavy? = stiff neck?
Has anyone had experiences / heard or read impressions that the DT770's are a bit too heavy? I've had them (mine are the '05 250 ohm version) for a few days and I can plainly see that they're built like a tank. On extended listening sessions, I can feel some strain developing around my nape...- lastdodobird

Portable Headphone Amp that will synergize well with the DT770-250 ('05)?
Looking for something that will drive the DT770-250 ('05) well and enhance it in such a way that it will tame the excesses and improve its shortcomings. Not something that will further improve on things that the headphones already do well. How will the Caffeine Amp / Penguin Amp do with these...- lastdodobird

What Headphones Satisfy Most Of The FF Descriptions (from the Glossary)?
I got these terms from the "Describing Sound - A Glossary" thread. I'm not necessarily looking for recommendations, so disregard choice of music and current listening gear and just take the headphones for what they are, everything else considered equal. So... Just out of curiosity, what...- lastdodobird

Cans for under $250 for people especially sensitive to treble?
What are the best-sounding all-rounder cans for people who are especially sensitive to highs/trebles and partial to a warm, smooth sound signature? How accurately can you differentiate a V0-MP3 and a FLAC on your setup?
I realize that this is an audiophile forum, so the question may come across as laughable to some; but on regular music forums, most people would really scoff at the claim that one would be able to tell the difference between a high-quality lossy rip and a lossless rip... So just to put the...- lastdodobird

Which are better as test tracks...?
...songs that you're familiar with (all-time favorites) that aren't terribly produced, but don't have pristine production values? or ...audiophile-grade tracks that you have rarely heard (like Chesky stuff that you borrowed from a friend or something)? Recommendations for a good Full-Sized/Circumaural pair of Headphones (considering my criteria [inside])?
Hopefully you guys could recommend a good full-sized/circumaural pair of headphones for me considering the following: I've been into this audio hobby for around five years now and I started with a pair of Sennheiser PX-100's, which were great at the time because I loved the bass and general...- lastdodobird

Metal Albums with the Best Sound Quality and Production
I'm kind of a sound junkie, so bad sound quality and production can usually turn me off. So I was just looking for albums that are put together with a nice sound quality... good mastering... good mixing... good sound production altogether. Of course, it helps if the music is good too, but even...- lastdodobird
