Fostex TH600 Dynamic Headphones
Can I get some recommendations on companies that can mod my TH600? I want a lightweight detachable cable. My pads are also worn out and need replacing. Actually, I’d love a better headband while I’m at it. Thank you!- ethan7000

Hey all - missing the bass on the 400 and thinking about buying them yet again. Only listen to EDM on them - how do the focus/focus-a pads affect the sound on the 400? Cheers- ethan7000

Don't be afraid of EQ. Level or boost so that the frequencies under 60Hz are emphasized more, then try that track again. You will find your rumble, the drivers are very capable. They can do more rumble, they were just voiced to be balanced. I like to use EQ on EDM, flat on most other genres...- ethan7000

I had the DT880 for gaming. I sold it for the X1, which I would recommend over the Beyers for that purpose. The 400i has a smaller soundstage comparatively which makes finding enemies more difficult. It would be my last choice of the three for gaming, but first of the three for music.- ethan7000

Then you're listening to the wrong stuff ;) I'm also calling anything up to 60 Hz sub bass for my purposes.- ethan7000

Yes I was just comparing sub bass. EDM is full of it, all depends on your genres. I also like jazz with upright bass - hits the low tones frequently.- ethan7000

I'm not sure I understand Billheiser's review with regard to bass. I owned the HD580 (you probably know it's connection to the HD600) for over 10 years, then the HE400, HE500, HE400i. I tried boosting sub bass on each set with these results: HD580: Technically unable to reproduce lowest...- ethan7000

I switched from Mog ($5/month) to Spotify student ($5). Was happy with Mog till it was bought by Beats. Am happy with Spotify now. Also on Soundcloud for a lot of EDM that's not available elsewhere.- ethan7000

Best $300 Headphones
Sibilant and not great for vocals. I would throw the Fidelio X1 in the mix if you want a little more bass presence than the 600 will give you.- ethan7000

This - there just isn't one headphone that does it all in my opinion. On another topic, the 400i is waaaaaaaay too beautiful for the small number of photos in this thread!- ethan7000

Hifiman he-400i Impressions and Discussion
True, but I could afford the 800 in addition if I really wanted to go there. For me, each headphone I have fulfills a specific need, be it a genre of music, gaming, etc. The 800 would be just for certain genres (for me) as I do prefer my other cans for specific uses. Even though the 800 is more...- ethan7000

I think you're right on for your needs. I like the 400i less than the 400 for gaming. Even then, I didn't like the 400 for gaming, preferred the X1 for that purpose (could never tell where anyone was due to small soundstage). Of course the TH600 are my ultimate gaming cans :p- ethan7000

No, if you prefer the 800 over the HE500 for electronic, hip-hop etc., you'll prefer it over the 400i as well.- ethan7000

It does outclass the 400i in soundstage, air etc. HOWEVER what you prefer will depend on the music you listen to. Classical? The 800 will destroy the 400i. EDM and hip-hop? I'll take the 400i. @MickeyVee if you listen to multiple genres as I do, I would call the 800 and 400i good complements. I...- ethan7000
