Thank's Matt.  Pretty much what I'm thinking. Can't wait to audition.  Would like a second pair of headphones again.

The 400i is a great complement to the hd800.

LOL I've been waiting months to plan my trip there.

I'm waiting for the last piece to get there, which is the 400i, so I can lug my equipment at once and try out all the headphones along with the Stax combos.

Also, Mark brings up something that I forgot about HE-400i. Their sensitivity. Anyone try them out of an iPad or the new Macbook Pro Retina (which surprisingly have a decent headphone amp)? I wouldn't mind having them for bedside rig or getting one for my dad.

Hmmm…I listen to a lot of hip hop, pop, rap and electronic stuff. Classic and jazz here and there, but mainly the previous genres mentioned.

For each of those genres I'd take the HD800 over: D2000, HE-400, HE-500, HE-6, LCD-2C, and LCD-3C.

Is the 400i specifically tuned for those genres?

The 400i I'd call more of an all rounder. Listening to some DSD rips right now. Wow...

...the 400i responds REALLY nicely to well recorded music.

What are you running them off again?

Hoping they be great with the AK100, iPad Mini, MacBook Air/Dragonfly.. Take anywhere setup.
Charles is going to email me when he gets them in.  I'll PM you. Make it a Saturday morning outing.

This one surprised even me. Although the mjolnir offers better punch and dynamics, there is an impressive amount of finesse with the Beyer that keeps me coming back. Writing a review now for headphone.guru on the Beyer.

Didn't even realize that Beyer also came out with a 1000+ headphone amp. It's the cool thing to do nowadays. All the brands have one, even Oppo. Enjoy :)

No, if you prefer the 800 over the HE500 for electronic, hip-hop etc., you'll prefer it over the 400i as well.

Unfortunately for me, I'm a visual media mainly eadphone user, meaning I don't really listen to music on my headphones much. $500 for an articulate headphone that doesn't have the level of bass immersion I like just doesn't seem like my personal idea of money well spent. I love the idea of the 400i as much as I love the 650, but ultimately, I feel I can live with the OG 400 more, since my uses are more targeted for deeper/more bass presence.

Again, I'm positive I'd love the 400i (I've loved plenty of balanced headphones), just not ideal for my main uses. A headphone can be as accurate or balanced as it can be, I will still want a push in bass. 400 is more or less my ideal level.
