K501 vs HD580 vs old DT880 price/performance
I would suggest the DT880. As lively and detailed as the k501 but with a better bass foundation and suitable for a broad range of musical genres. The HD580... has the Sennheiser sound.- Dentomat

What are the BEST LOOKING headphones out there?
I like the look of the previous DT 880s. I would call that retro-futuristic look. The current model looks rather cheap and boring. But that´s another story...- Dentomat

Dare to leave your amp on 24/7?
I´m not familiar with Dynahi amps. But judging from your description I wouldn´t leave any device turned on continously that reaches 70 C. I would fear that the circuit boards and electronic parts would age too fast. I decided to leave my headamp on 24/7 but its all solid state and its warming...- Dentomat

Another Sennheiser thread
It depends of which kind of music you want to listen. I don´t know the HD595 but the HD650 has a definitely darker sound than other phones. Which doesn´t make them necessarily bad ones but you should know this. Of course everything improves with an headamp but they should work good enough witg...- Dentomat

Break-in: time and volume and cables
I would use pink noise (be careful with white noise, it has a large amount of treble energy). I would start below normal listening level and increase it then slightly above normal listening level. Or you could generate a mix of sine waves of different frequencies with an appropriate computer...- Dentomat

Silicone impressions (shelf life?)
The dimension change over 2 weeks are some hundreths of a milimeter, which is decisive for the exact fit of dentals works. (As drlee27 said) but I dont think you would perceive such a small change on your ears. If you kept the impressions out of direct sunlight and they show no signs of...- Dentomat

Compulsive obessive disorder for PX100
Very addictive phones. I bought one for my dad and his iPod nano. Since then he isn´t open to conversation anymore. He just sits on the balcony, listening to music. (My mother starts to curse "those damned headphones". Maybe I should get her a pair, too.) I audioned them as well and I think...- Dentomat

Influence of earpads on sound
I read that different earpads can influence the sound of phones. Beyerdynamic even mentions that on their "Manufaktur" webpage, that choosing different materials can alter the sound. How does that come? Is it possible to "correct" sound deficiencies of phones by changing pads? Especially to...- Dentomat

Beyerdynamic Manufaktur 600 Ohm phones
Thanks cosmopragma, for the quick and detailed answer. The lower moved mass could be responsible for the better transient response, but as you´re saying this impression is very subtle and bordering to imagination, that wouln´t be a strong argument to their favour. The Sugden Headmaster is...- Dentomat

Beyerdynamic Manufaktur 600 Ohm phones
Has somebody experience with these. The web page says "minimum moved mass" for the 600 Ohm models. Does that affect the sound in a positive way? How hard are they to drive for an amp? Please help me decide before ordering my new 880s. Thanks a lot!- Dentomat

is the weakness of HD-650 in attack speed?
They appear to be "slow" due to their recessed high frequencies, which are "fast". This phenomenom is probably(!) exaggerated by the amplifier. That said, I don´t want to defend the 650´s, I just want help to make clear what´s wrong with them. But I wouldn´t try to adjust it´s characteristics...- Dentomat

Am I risking my hearing?
Spontaneous acoustic sensations are quite common and are harmless, as long as they appear not too often and only for a short time. But if you get the symptoms more often since you use your new IEMs, you should do without them for a while and see a doctor, especially since you had stress in your...- Dentomat

Why not closed head phones....
For recording in the studio it´s necessary that the headphone sound doesn´t "bleed" into the mics. (Prevent sound from coming out of the phone.) For DJ´s it´s important to hear what they´re mixing undisturbed from the sound of the PA system. (Prevent sound from getting in the phone.) For...- Dentomat

Very loud cordless for older lady !!!

RS1 vs HD650 from a non-audiophile POV
What would she say after listening to them for an hour? To most people unexperienced with high quality sound reproduction the more flashy sounding component is initially more attractive.- Dentomat
