MY vote is for the HD580, great price and a great set of cans to boot!

I would suggest the DT880. As lively and detailed as the k501 but with a better bass foundation and suitable for a broad range of musical genres. The HD580... has the Sennheiser sound.

I would reccomend the DT880.
I owned a pair of HD580's, and I didn't like them one bit. I absolutely adore the open, clean high end of the 880's. They shine with just about all kinds of music. They are a little lacking in some of the more muddled kinds of rock, but others they are wonderful.

I own or have owned all three... I'd say the DT880 has the best price/performance ratio, followed by the HD580, followed by the K501. For an all-rounder I'd probably choose the HD580, but IMO none of the three are really great all-rounders.

Edit -- how much rap do you listen to? If quite a bit, I'd jump on the HD580 and forget the other two. I don't think you'd be satisfied with DT880 or K501 bass performance when it comes to rap. I'd actually recommend the HD580 the highest for general "pop" as well.
