I got a pair of HFI-2200s for Christmas from my wife, and have been listenning with them for ~8 hours today.

Quite how these cans go almost totally under the radar is beyond me. They are utterly brilliant. I'd say they're quite mid-centric (or at least upper bass-centric), with a fair dollop of low end. They definitely don't go as low as D2000s, but generally have a warmer, bassier and more direct presentation. They don't seem to give up much in the way of detail either.

I've been mainly listening to Infected Mushroom with them so far (psytrance), and they do the job very well indeed.

Maybe 'cause its the less efficient headphone in the ultrasone line. HFi-2400 (HFi-2200 is apparently less efficient) come to life with an amp. Really very good headphone, fun, warm, huge soudstage, but sometimes sibilant.

The brown and orange ones, right?

I think a big factor in their going under most peoples' radars is their not being in production any more. When they were around there was a bit more discussion of them, but mainly on Ultrasone threads. Ultrasones in general fall under most peoples' radars unless we're talking about the PRO 900 / 2900.

The HFI 2200 was sort of known as being the "romantic dinner and candlelight" headphones due to their warm, gooey, and forgiving sound.

I own the HFi-780's. Possibly getting Pro 900's.....probably not for a while though.

When you finally get them you'll wish you'd gotten them sooner though.

That's what happened to me as I made that exact same progression anyway.

Good to know lol. I'll enjoy my 780s until they break, which will probably take a while, so I'll wait till I get a hold of $300. Anyone know of a cheaper price for the 900s

Ordered the Pro 900 and waiting (impatiently) for delivery . . I'm upgrading from ATH M-50's and this will be my first pair of Ultrasone's.  Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll love em as much as I anticipate.

To anyone interested in the PRO2900 be warned that it is not very forgiving to poor source material. If any of your CDs are brickwalled these headphones will let you know. Regretfully I'm selling mine for this reason, over half of my library has been rendered painful to listen to. I'm going to miss the Ultrasone sound sig, but I'm not willing to chuck half my collection to enjoy it.
If anyone is interested in them please look in my sig bellow for more details. A great alternative to the PRO900s if isolation is a non issue. The bass isn't as strong, but they have a more coherent sound.

How well are the lower-mids of the HFI-2200 represented? I think that's the area that the PROline 750's most leave me wanting. Even though I just got the 750's, I'm wondering if I want to turn them over for the HFI-2200's. While the 750's aren't bad for folk music, they're less that ideal.

Is there anyone here that would be comfortable lending the 2200/2400's? (The 2400's are the same as the 2200's as far as sound goes, right?)

I actually feel like the 2900s are much more forgiving than the pro900s.. the 900s were terribly sibilant and soundstage isn't nearly as good as the 2900s... some sites sell these pretty close in price, I would go for the 2900s hands down.. much smoother treble, more balanced sound with awesome bass impact for a open headphone.
