The Fiio X5 Thread

Thanks for all the information on FW2.7. I use OTG to try out new albums before I load it onto the internalSD card so I will stick to FW2.5, although the scrollwheel was a bit beter in FW versions before FW 2.5.

Have you tried 2.6? 2.6 adds better support and function for the wheel. Though I find 2.7 to be PERFECT 2.6 should be MUCH more improved over 2.5.

Will this lack of OTG prevent the X5 from being used as an external DAC... Or is it not being able to use it external external storage (i.e flash drives).

I would think just the latter, but some things written here make me question that.

They need to fix the lag when you back out on a song.

Nope - OTG should have nothing to do with DAC functionality.

With the 2.7 update it disables OTG only. DAC and Storage modes still work perfectly fine.

If you are on 2.6 or 2.5 and have no issues or need OTG then I wouldn't bother with it unless you want better wheel performance and seemingly better performance over all. Really loving it. Makes the X5 feel like the premium product it is.

I read that gapless flac playback in FW 2.6 is not working well, and that crucial to me. FW 2.5 is perfect for me, the not optimal scroll wheel is not bothering me that much.

I am listening to my X5 with FW2.7 at the moment. It sounded nice driving my B&W X5's. It sounds even better driving my Mojo to the X5's. I am curious about what was improved as far as usability? I never touch the scroll wheel so if it improved I might not notice. I searched for Replay Gain and did not find it.

Can someone provide a link to a list of what changed in FW2.7?

I like that after I installed it I DID NOT have to update the library. My 200GB card takes a long time to update.
I really like this X5, yes sir. (But I love my X3 as well) I should get an X7 but the Mojo kinda negates the need.
(The want still lives on)

is 2.7 better for someone who wont be using OTG ?

I have found it to be. It seems to be faster as far as the UI goes and the wheel is 1:1 perfect for movement. Seriously haven't noticed any skips or irregular movement.

So I would say that even IF you aren't having USB issues if you aren't using OTG then I'd highly recommend 2.7.

And as I said above, what do you have to lose by trying it out? Going from 2.6 to 2.7 didn't even lose any of my settings!

Massdrop had a quick drop, selling X5iis for $289 - I picked up one. One for the office, and one for home. Debating which to bring here and which to have at the office based on this OTG thing!

I don't use the X5 to parse through my library, I use the file structure directories. No more than an album in one folder. Does anybody think the X5 would be able to browse a giant OTG hard drive like that?

Are we talking about the X5 1st Gen (what this thread is for) or the X5 2nd Gen? I've heard that the X5 has trouble above 128GB of storage but I can't confirm that since I'm on fw 2.7.
