The discovery thread!

Thread Courtesy Reminder :relaxed:

If you happen to have multiple posts that you would like to reply to, please remember that we have a multi-quote feature. You can use the +Quote buttons to select all of the posts that you'd like to reply to, then insert those quotes into a single post at the end. This will cut down on the number of posts that everybody needs to catch up on when they revisit the thread. Thanks!
Oh, the Watercooler thread is getting behind the Discovery in the numbers of posts  (I know some Watercoolers are very much into the number of posts and into "overtaking" Discovery - with the last month dynamics - not gonna happen :))

On a more constructive note, the amount of information/text remains the same (hopefully, not straining the server as well), and sometimes it is easy to read when it is "one message- one post", especially for a younger generation.

Would agree with you on the comparison, specially the treble and bass is of higher quality and resolution on ZS10 Pro 2. The bass quality is actually very good and better than many other more expensive sets.

But I still get fatuiged after listening to this KZ on more energetic music or for longer sessions. I'm very sensetive to bad quality upper mids and that's probably why, as it does have some of that grainy sharper upper midrange. Not the first KZ and CCA giving me this problem, why I tend to only like the dynamic driver models 😅

But I cannot deny this being a good value of them, especially looking at the price 💯

Reminds me of the old days here when @Slater was still around (mod in peace, bro) and he and some other nerds here were modding the living cr@p out of those KZ, CCA, TRN, BLON, etc..., including 'inside jobs' ... opening them up, dampening individual drivers, etc...
Not for everyone but OTOH no rocket science either. Even though I'm not much of a fan of xy-brids, if the pos. reviews on the Pro 2 keep coming in I might get a pair myself and see what can be done IF the upper midrange somewhere around that prominent 3k peak needs some work ... might be worth it.

Thanks for saving me from being continually tempted by the ST7 haha. I have these zs10s and they ARE quite amazing, although still not as much bass as the good ol' ZS6, although probably a bit more detailed.

The good 'ol ZS6 ... after some mods (cotton tubes, blue tack dots on new steel meshes, mesh filter on one of the treble BAs) they've been my daily bangers on public transport for quite some time ... I still own 4 sets, lol.
Once I'm at it ... something that might have escaped some folks is that there are 2 versions of the ZS6 (that have been discussed quite a bit back then). The first batch(es) sport some spicy older Bellsing BA for the treble that some folks here didn't like too much but at some point KZ switched to new custom Bellsings and while that helped a bit to tame the hot trebles some modders here, myself included, preferred the spicier OG version (with some quick and dirty mods, see above).
Can't please everyone, but at least they keep trying 👍

Akros collab, a 1DD iem apparently.

Ok, Akros and a 1DD tuned by him is definitely worth to keep your eyes and especially ears open.

The 10k dip is fine, but the 8k peak worries me a bit. The ~13k peak is negligible. But what I'm looking forward to is that there's a very very mild rise where the pinna gain region begins, and to take out a bit of the higher mids might be something I enjoy.

...and since it's Akros, our wallets likely will enjoy this upcoming release nonetheless because he's always after the best budget performers out there and my bet is, it won't cost a fortune.

I used to mod cheapo chi-fi DAP's during the halcyon earbuds forum days. Any modding: like op-amp rolling / capacitor exchanging etc. was always linked to specialist forum threads so it wasn't really an issue. ST7 & Pro2 are still both on my radar - alas once the Hydro arrives, will inform whether I need them tbf.

@Bosk did some masterworks modding a Chifi tube amp in the past. Unfortunately I have never had a chance to test that giant box before he disassembled it.

I’m not touching amp modding. With my luck, it would explode in my face 😂

Really?
  1. The Watercooler Thread has always been behind this thread in the number of posts.
  2. Over in The Watercooler Thread, Rockwell75 has chastised people for not multi-quoting.
  3. I posted the reminder above, only after receiving complaints about post spamming occurring here, and I was hoping that a stitch in time would save nine. But I'm perfectly happy to just let posts get reported and deleted, and for more extensive thread pruning to happen as a result.

Haha I totally agree: it's not for the faint hearted - Zishan Z2 was the only DAP I needed to replace post soldering & such mistakes dissuade you from trying out anything more complex. I never bought the Zishan DSD which had some incredible mods, alas I'd never attempt to re-solder SMP components circuitry & risk smoking a much more expensive unit - bigtime.
Considering the cost of an Hiby R4 nowadays with inbuilt PEQ etc, why would you ?? lol.

Can you explain this exactly, please?

I can not. As stated in our Posting Guidelines, private messages are private, and there's no need for me to get into who has made complaints. Suffice it to say, not all of you in this thread are happy with some of the rapid fire posts that happen here.

Rockwell not cheering for the number of posts and page numbers on numerous occasions and not asking at least several times about overtaking Discovery thread? Furthernore, to one of his posts about overtaking Discovery - you gave quite a detailed answer with the projections based on post dynamics that required some efforts looking into it (!) (back then post numbers for the threads were on slowly intersecting trendlines. Now this trend is broken).

I rest my case here. No more comments about it.
Any actions are your prerogatives and responsibility.

First of all, you do realize that nobody takes any of that seriously right?

I rest my case here. No more comments about it.

Secondly, likewise. Y'all carry on as you were then. Just use the report button if there are any issues, no need to PM me about it.

Thread drama is the worst sort of drama. It makes me worried about someone someday just turning the lights off and shutting the door on what is one of my favourite pastimes lately.

Zishan/walnut and that overly expensive capacitor.
And og xd05 and op-amp rolling.

That was zs5, zs6 days.
I'm still using dragonfly black dongle for my phone.

It's my hope that this thread remains one of the most popular threads here on Head-Fi, and better yet the most popular thread here period!

I think a lot of Head-Fiers have built there love for the hobby through this thread -- starting as new members, and eventually growing into some of our most experienced members -- happily passing on their knowledge to even newer generations of members.

If this thread had five, ten or even twenty times as many posts as as any other thread, that would be a wonderful thing! It means that both the hobby and the community are healthy (and ideally) happy.
