New ZS5 has got quite good timbre, the bellsing driver has improved quite much.

It’s basically less sibilant Timeless with surprisingly overdosed treble extension.

The low end has same units like GK10, a subwoofer DD + mid DD. The subwoofer DD is actually quite fast responding than the sloppy one of GK10. If you liked GK10, the chances are high that you may like new ZS5 more than GK10.8C0BD24F-4186-4035-92C7-50C4A6AE61DA.jpegEDE27157-C1DF-4E0E-8AAF-1A05E105E392.jpegA50BE84F-177C-4A14-BD1E-F7C6FEEA84D1.jpeg
Hey, it’s a 2 pin Campfire Ara (Ara)

That amount if treble around 10kHz is … interesting. I can’t recall the last time I see that much 10k.

The original ZS5. The great disappointment. From that point forward, I stopped sinking pennies into KZ, until my recent purchase of the Linglong. That ZS5 was just a load of poop.

accidentally see your post, accidentally see a sale
By the way, great review!
Thank you

Mojo 2 at $168, Good Deal! Go for it as long as it is in good condition.

We pay appropriately £500 in the UK, then add the Poly....you pay twice the price. My wallet is crying already even though I have no intention of paying that price.

Actually the OG ZS5 was quite good IMHO. It’s the latter implementation (which had two BAs in the nozzle instead of one) turned that model into a hot sizzling mess.
I still have my original unit. Took it out for a spin a few days ago and it still sounds good.

Orchestra Lite is here.

Alright, first thing first. They are incredibly beautiful in person. Fully filled with resin, crystal clear.

Now the sound. I need to calibrate my standard again because all the days spending with Andro and Gaea to review the latter have created a very high expectation.

I think the tuning is very safe. KiwiEars know the target to hit for natural tonality, and they cut some where in the lower treble to round off the sound to avoid any kind of edginess. I still hear some (not so) interesting metallic tint in the high vocals. Just barely and rarely. The overall tonality tilts towards warmth a touch. Not as far as the Andromeda.

The bass is definitely there. There is real thump thump sound. There is some subbass kick sensation. But no, the bass is no visceral or dynamic. For example, the bass drops of despacito lack the “WHAM” feeling. How to explain, it’s like I do hear a loud thump, but the loudness does not jump immediately. Serviceable bass but far from a decent DD.

Midrange detail is alright. Everything feels a little soft, at least comparing to the Andro and Gaea, but I don’t miss too much detail. Soundstage is nothing special in terms of size. The voice is strictly in my head. But the imagine of things happen around the soundstage is quite accurate.

Good isolation. I can see why this is a stage monitoring tool for pros. Very comfortable sound, allowing you to listen loud to combat the noise.

I’ll do more A/B with IEMs in its class (B2 and P5) to see whether it is a 4/5 or a 3/5.

Edit: impressions done with M6 Ultra, which is already a thick and bassy source.

Edit2: these IEMs as a whole remind me of the OG Dunu SA6, including the vented BA woofers.

Even if it is in a different price range,
I'd like to read a comparison with the Moondrop S8.

I wish to do that comparison for you, but I don’t have S8 (because I don’t trust Moondrop enough to blind buy a AUD $1000 IEM :dt880smile: ). I doubt these have technical chops to be even in the same postcode with S8.

I’m going to a local hifi store soon. I can at least try to A/B against Monarch for you.

A non DSP Droplet, looks pretty great as a budget analytical set honestly. Anyone else interested? I could see this going cheaper than the standard Droplet if it ever gets released

That's a bit like the original Heart Mirror tuning.
But the pinna gain is about 10 dB here with linear bass, it might be shouty.
