Can anyone think of good (preferably circamaural) headphones to replace Beats Studio with? I'd like headphones with sound quality that is superior to that of Beats enough to justify the purchase. I'd also like them to be well-ballanced, I'm sort of sick of overbearing bass by now. the price should be about 100-150 eur; 200 max but they need to be really perfect for that price. Nice design wouldn't hurt either as I'd like to be wearing them outside although that isn't all that necessary. The possibility of wearing them around the neck without choking to death is always a plus.

from what I've tried on so far, Denon 1100 seemed a bit too brittle in terms of construction and the bass was just nauseating. sound quality in general was pretty good though, I loved the design and they are currently being sold on amazon for 50 GBP. Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro on the other hand were much more sturdy, they also looked pretty good and the sound was just amazing. well, the best I've heard anyway. I haven't tried much besides beats and the god-awful WeSC Bongo. so I wouldn't really know. They seem to work pretty well with my phone as well, even without an amp. They were pretty large though and attempts to wear them around the neck resulted in me not being able to turn my head at all (or breathe for that matter).

can anyone think of any more alternatives?

also, any good, not overly expensive IEMs for all the times when I'm not able to drag full-sized headphones around?

If you want a closed set I think you'd really like the Ultrasone HFI-780. Not sure about prices in euros, though. Ultrasones still have a good amount of bass, but the 780's are one of the more balanced pairs, and their sound quality is exceptional (imo). An amp will help but is not necessary. :)

Hello! I have some AKG 240 Sextetts that don't adjust to my head properly because the plastic that helps adjust the them is broken. They're the little black pieces on the sides of the headphones. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

THANK YOU!!!

THANK YOU!!!

As far as i can tell AKG does not even list parts for the Sextetts, but you can try searching this site.

Hi, I am looking for a pair of headphones around 300$ to play with ipod and Objective2 amp.
I have some in my minds: dt880, ath ad900, akg k701/q701. I often listen to symphonic metal, but I also enjoy Emi Fujita, Cat Steven, etc... and some Pop.
I prefer clean and airy sound and would love to have a pair with speed and some treble.
I am using a GR07 iem and find its lack of treble and separation disturbing, thought the bass and mid are great.

Could you give me some comparison and recommendation?
Can Objective2 drive DT880 600ohm properly? Are 250 cans very different from 600 ohm?

Thank you in advance.

Hey all, recently made a purchase I am not too sure about.

I went from having the HD555's for a long time until they finally broke (I have a big head and the bands cracked constantly, small repairs kept it going for a time).

Now i had gotten the V-MODA Crossfade LP2's from the holidays, and while I love the sound quality, they simply aren't big enough for my head.

Although the sound is excellent (to me), I get headaches from wearing them after an hour and the gap definitely does not properly cover my ears, leaving them squished on the padding's ridges.

I'm sure I could stretch them over time, but I have been considering just returning them and getting something different from amazon in the 150-200 price range, maybe more if its worth it.

So I realized im in a situation similar to jjcoolaus'

Quote:
- have earpads as big as the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro pads, and preferably velour but doesn't have to be - i wear glasses so many headphones are uncomfortable for me
- can run from unamped sources (so impedance under 50 ohms) like a smartphone
- would prefer a slightly exaggerated bass response (unlike the 440s), but with mids & treble like the 440s (which i consider to be very nice), but it would be good if the headphones responded really well to being EQ'd (as in they are capable of really nice bass, it's just hidden until you bring it out)
- isolate like the DT770s and SRH440s do (both are pretty good in this department)

Minus the glasses, haha, but I am by no means a true audiophile with all the bells and whistles (amps, dacs, whatever makes you guys tick) but would like to have a pair that I don't have to use an amp for, but could get one to make it sound better.

I am an avid listener and am getting into producing, so I would love to be able to have great sounds for games/movies, but have no problems when making tunes that should sound good on any system. (maybe that is too much to be asking for, not sure)

I loved the solid construction of the LP2's because I can drop them and know they wont break as easily, but they are a size too small for me.

And the comfort of the HD555's was amazing, but they unfortunately couldn't handle my big head forever.

Then i saw pro1137 follow up by recommending the Beyer Custom One Pro.

Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro.
The COP can change its sound signature from no bass, to neutral, to somewhat bassy, to very bassy with the unique vent slider on the headphones.
16 Ohms. Everything benefits from an amp. Everything.
But with only 16 ohms, an amp is not necessary AT ALL.
Beyerdynamic legendary comfort, but with pleather pads that can be swapped out for the DT770's Velour pads.

It sounds like they would be a good replacement for my current V-MODA LP2s, but can anybody give their 2 cents into my current situation?

The return window for these ends this month, so I would like to give it another try with some advice from people who know what they're doing.

     Thanks a lot!

Edit: I would like to add that if anyone could recommend something that has a good amount of noise cancellation, not as loud as the HD555s but doesn't have to be as quiet as the LP2s, and something that can definitely stand up to getting dropped here and there, the HD555's were rather brittle to me and something that can withstand doofus torture would be amazing.

Are you a sunbro?

Get the custom ones, I am getting them for the same things you are looking for

HI Everyone,
I might be looking for a set of headphones that doesn't exist. So far i've tried Shure SRH440, Crossfade LP2, Sony MDR-XB500, and various others that don't *quite* meet my needs.

Can anyone suggest a pair that:

Recently i've purchased the Audio Technica ATH-A500X hoping that might be the answer.

If that doesn't work, the next on my list to buy is the Shure SRH840 or possibly the ATH-A900X - i'm nervous though - i'm dropping $200 *again* (i live in Australia and that's the cheapest i can buy them for online) and don't want it to go to waste. The Sennheiser PX360 is another contender (no not the PXC360 bluetooth model, the PX 360).

SRH840 have extremely good sound quality for the price, the best closed headphone under $250 imo.  They do have slightly emphasized bass and run very well without amplification (but still improve with an amp) so they do suit your needs pretty well.

The 600 ohm is more linear and smoother than 250

Hello everyone ! I'm new and this is my first post.

To present myself, i am a parisien looking for a headphone ... how original I know. I went to this website thinking it would be a quick search for best headphone for 150 euros and i was dead wrong ; apparently there is so much to know ! Like what music i like, if i want an amp (i didnt know a good headphone had to be amp)  and so much other things to consider ...

So to precise my request for recommandation here is what i'm looking for : a good headphone for max 150 euros, mainly for street use with my iphone 4. I mostly listen to rock and street music. I would prefer closed one but that's a gut feeling. I would like no amp to because i dont know anything about that subject !

So what would you recommand ? Quicly browsing the website lead me to the audio technica m50, is that a good choice ? And is there a good starting topic on amps ?

Thanks !

For rock, the V-Moda M80 is a good choice. Or if you want to willing to spend more, the HD25 is a good choice too. Both of them are sounds good already plugged directly to iDevices

New here, just registered.

I am looking for closed headphones that work with iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S3, I pretty much only listed to metal and rock. Will be using them whilst travelling to Uni and work in busy London so something that is portable would be good. My budget is a bit on the low side, around £70, can stretch a bit if they are very good and it has to be available at a UK based website, preferably from Amazon.co.uk. Don't really know any headphone specialist UK based website, if there are any that people know of I would buy from there.

Thank you for responding so quickly ! I find the M80 quite ugly, that's too bad cause i really liked the fact that it had the apple remote on the cable. The HD25 is 200 euros on the french amazon so it's too expensive for me.

Hi, i'm looking for some <100$ headphones without " too heavy basses", good comfort (lightweight) and low imp. since a don't have an ampli. (closed)

@Arzach
I've not heard the srh440 but the Sony zx700 does fit you description. You can add a pair of Brainwavz HM5 pads for even better comfort and sound isolation.

A bit heavy, what do you guys think about mdr-xd100? (i have neck problems)
http://www.sony.it/product/haa-home-entertainment-headphones/mdr-xd100/specifiche-tecniche#tab
(They have 70 Ohm, do i need an amp?)
