Yes AT have very good Sale now on amazon but ATH-AD700 lack bass but AKG K240 not. For me K240 is better when ATH-AD700 and even cheap. I have listened Grado SR 60i but if you compare to it again K240, AKG is far more balanced can and not agressive as grado... again all depends on personal taste

Ok... so I narrowed it down to a couple of headphone that I need some advice on which to buy.
 
Background:

1. They must be closed (are going to be used in a close office environment)
2. Soundsource: mainly Spotify (320 Kbps)
3. Music genre: Jazz, classical, soundtrack and a bit of rock and electronic thrown in for good measure
4. Amp/DAC: FiiO E10
5. Current headphones: Denon AH-D750 (like them very very much, but they are breaking apart)

 
My budget allows me to consider the following headphones:

1. Ultrasone PRO 750 (€ 244)
2. Audio Technica ATH-M50 (€ 145)
3. AKG K550 (€ 187)

 
I like a headphone with a wide frequency range (soundscape) and a solid bass)
 
So which should I go for? 
 
(or should I just break the bank and go for the new Denon AH-D600 (aprox € 400) ?

Yes those two are very decent cans but AKG offers same in less price, Good bass clear mids and sweet treble,

The AKG K 240 Studios are nice cans and a good buy at $79 (they seem to float between $79 and $89 at Amazon in recent months).  However, their build quality is not the best.  It has fallen a great deal since the Austrian made classic that held up for a decade or more of studio use.  In addition I find the clarity and sound presentation of the somewhat more expensive Shure SRH 840 and KRK KNS 8400 to be superior--and they also work better unamped.
 
Again--there are no dogs in this group.  All are good cans.

That is the legendary k240 sextett.. CMIIW, one of the best sounding headphone aside from the nad rp18, i agree with you on that

Ehh I agree... build quality is poor for K240 among all these... but still OK, I have seen old Austrian made ones (((((

Hi guys I'm looking to buy my first set of full size headphones and need some advice. I'll mainly be using them with a desktop computer for music and movies.
 
I've looked around the internet a bit and the Sennheiser HD598, Sennheiser HD650, and the AKG K550 are the ones that caught my attention. The HD598 are supposed to be 'fun' with solid sound quality for the price I'm not sure if it's worth the money to upgrade to the HD650 or how the K550 stacks up to those two. I mostly listen to rock, metal, pop and some classical and jazz/blues. I'm ok with open or closed back whichever sounds best and I like a decent amount of bass but not so that it overpowers the mids and highs.
 
Also I'm willing to get an amp if necessary but I have no idea what kind of amp I should get if I even need one at all.

Im in doubt between V-moda 80 x Ultrasone hfi 780,but i think that im going with the ultrasone cause i preefer over ear....do you guys think thats its a good choice???
 
1.Isolation and portable its important for me cause i need for outside use
2.A headphone that progressive trance sounds amazing but i can listen to rock and reggae too
3.Dont want to use with amp
4.Preffer with removable output cable

The 650 requires a relatively strong amp.  How much are you willing to spend for the whole package?  Is it correct to conclude that you use on board audio and do not have a sound card?

I haven't really set a budget yet but I want to keep it reasonable. Unless I can get a good deal on the 650's they are probably a little too expensive. And no I do not have a sound card.

That leaves the excellent and easy to drive (you still might need a sound card and/or amp/dac) open HD 598 are the clear leader from your list.  It does well with movies, gaming and is an excellent all arounder for music in its price range.

The 598's were my first choice so far too. I've read some people saying that they even prefer the 598's to the 650's. And for the price it seems like one of the best choices. How does AKG K550 compare though, and what kind of amp's should I be looking at?
