Before you send your impressions away make sure to photograph them and email 1964 (or whoever you go with) pictures of them, my first set didnt go far enough into my ear canal.

Id also email them about the musicians plugs for biking with as Im not sure what kind of sound levels you will be dealing with.

Good luck.

I also thought about this, and before I get a pair made, im going to try out some plugs i have at home for shooting that are supposed to reduce the sound to -26db, if it is a comfortable sound then, ill just get normal plugs, but i have the feeling that -26db will be too much. Considering -10db is supposed to be twice the percieved sound correct?

I have been looking at them actually, sadly I cant hear them locally anywhere (nor can I hear most headphones locally) and I also cant seem to find much information online (headfi reviews, freq resp graphs, etc.).

I do love my grado sr80i, at times they can be slightly too harsh but they just sound awesome most of the time. Maybe a little less bright could be good, but im not sure.

What kind of amping would the pro 750s need?

They are a bit less bright than the Grados (lol--isn't everything?).

With regard to amping, I can tell you my hybrid HiFiMan EF2A headphone amp does fine, as does my Yamaha Adventage receiver.  Two Onkyo A/V receivers I tried came up short.  Can't say for portable amps, as I don't own any.

Hi - I am a proud owner of Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones, and I love them mainly because of the durability, fit, and versatility (both physically and audibly) of them. HOWEVER...

I am looking to upgrade from them now, I want something fresh, but a noticeable step up. The main points I need filled are:
  1. Durability. They need to be at least as strong as the semi-metal/plastic build of the M50's.
  2. Looks. It can't be ridicu-ugly, but it doesn't need to win awards either. Something that looks good/sleek is nice.
  3. Overall Versatility. I listen to my music anywhere from on the bus, to at home, to in a library - good noise blocking and sound leakage is a must.

WILLING TO SPEND $400 TOTAL (Amp... etc. Included)

SOUND WISE...

To help, I will list a few of the songs of each genre I listen to - so please help me out! I generally listen to them all, but the more examples I have for a genre, the more I listen to that music. (aka: 3>2>1 in order of importance) Thanks in advance!

(PS: I know that my songs may not fit your likes, but please try giving me an objective statement!)

Techno/Dance
  1. "Disappearance of Hatsune Miku (Moonbug Remix)" - Hatsune Miku Dance Remix Vol.1 by Various Artists
  2. "Prometheus" - Portal 2 Songs by 2-Byte
  3. "Albino (Masahiko Kubota feat. Novoiski remix)" - Hatsune Miku Dance Remix Vol.1 by Various Artists

Rock/Rock & Roll
  1. "Escape (Lightning Guitar Ver.)" - Escape by Hemenway
  2. "Hourglass" - Light Lag by DECO*27
  3. "Battle for Everyone's Souls" - PERSONA MUSIC LIVE BAND by Tomoko Komiya

Rock/Other
  1. "My Dearest" - My Dearest by Supercell
  2. "I'll Face Myself -Battle-" - Never More -Reincarnation PERSONA4- by Shoji Meguro

OTHER INFO....

If the best recommendation for me is to get an amp with my purchase, then I'll do that - but please include the price of amp in the total! It will also need to be a portable amp, if any!

Thank you in advance for your help, Head-Fi!

To those who have tried the new Soundmagic HP100, how would you compare it with Hifiman HE300? i like the HE300's SQ but i just want to try a new sound signature. If the HP100 has better overall sound quality with HE300, then I will dive for it. I hope someone here can give his comparison or impressions. More power to this thread!

I really do like the look of the pro 750, although there doesn't seem to be much information around on the 750 sound signature.

I have been keeping my eye on the EFA2 but by the time I get the 750 to my door ($275usd from bhphoto incl shipping) I wont have much left for an amp, trying to keep it all under $400USD including shipping.
So all i'd be able to afford would be a fiio e10/e11 which seems like an insult to the 750s.

In addition to being included in the two buying guides linked in the opening post to this thread, there's this:

I know it can be expensive to get things to either the north or south island.

You're not going to get all that new (and maybe not used) for under $200.

But I have shortlisted 2 HP's "Fischer Audio FA-003" and "Beyerdynamic DT1350". So what is your take on both of the HP's according to what I have described I want in a HP's

Of the two, I only have spent time with the Brainwavz HM5, which is identical twin of the Fischer.  First the good: the HM5 comes with a case and lots of goodies, adding value and usefulness to the can.  It isolates well. The not-so-good: this is neutral headphone with OK sound that is physically quite big.  It's not a bad can, but not one I'm excited about either.

I had read both those buying guides, the 750 is listed as being $300 so I had skimmed over it.
Funny about the review page, I had been there multiple times and didnt see any reviews.. turns out they were further down than I expected >.>

The pro 900 graph looks quite nice, like a slightly tamed grado with a bass hump so hopefully the 750 are similar.

One of the reviews mentioned they leak sound which is a little off putting as I will be using them in an open office, but I cant find mention of it anywhere else.

Haven't heard the 900, but have my impression after reading about it is that the 900 is more off a basshead can.

The 750 can be had from Amazon in the U.S. for $225 shipped.  I have not had a leaking problem with the 750 (or even the open HiFi 2400), but I don't play them at insane volume levels.

Amazon doesnt usually ship electronics to NZ and shipping is additional for non continental US customers. For some reason it seems the 750 will ship to me, and shipping is only $24 rather than $50 :D

Sadly they are out of stock at this moment, hopefully they will get more soon (and hopefully this will be the black/grey rather than the blue).

Looking at your profile in the album headphones you have some dt770 pros and various grados/alessandros, if you dont mind and you do own these how do you feel the pro 750s compare to these?

EDIT
Reading around it appears the EF2As suffer from some channel imbalance issues compounded by the gain isses :frowning2:

That's a difficult assignment because, although the 750 (and the HiFi 780 & 2400) have some similarities to the Grados (SR line), they don't sound like the Grados.  The three Ultrasones sound the most like each other.  They have slam like the Grados, but it does not come in the same flavor.  They (and the DT 770 Pro) have more bass than the Grados.  They are bright, but not as bright as the Grados.  Neither has a remarkable sound stage, although the Ultrasones have a little more--at least until you get up to the 325.  The Ultrasones, especially the the 780 & 2400, are more comfortable than the Grados.   The Ultrasones have more of a tube-like sound signature, but best create it coming from a solid state amp.  The Grados have more of a solid state sound that sounds best when coming from a hybrid or tube amp.

That was true of the early production unints.  I have 2 of recent vintage and neither has either issue.  HiFiMan has a history of teething issues upon a new release--including headphones.

Be aware that some people have observed that individual DT 1350 headphones sound different from one another.  See post #20 here:
