Non-converting cue splitter for .wv wavpack file?
I have umm ... acquired a collection of several albums, each in a single 32bit/192kHz .wv file, with a companion .cue file. I want to split the single file for each album into individual tracks for use on pmp (Sony WM1A), but the cue splitter program I have doesn't support .wv. I did some...- Hanafuda

W/ BT hedfoans, does source even matter?
Hey guys, Hanafuda here. I've been registered at head-fi a long time, but mostly just have stupid questions bi-annually. Today's stupid question ... my understanding is that bluetooth cannot transmit an analog stream, so bluetooth headphones must be receiving unconverted digital data from the...- Hanafuda

Is the HD555 still 'alive and well' in Sennheiser's catalog?
Noticed the very agreeable pricing out there on the HD555 these days. Is the HD555 still in production, or just being sold off? I know Sennheiser's brought out the new 558 & 598 as an upgrade/evolution of the 595, but I don't see a new model aimed at the 555 niche. You know ... mid-priced, 1/8"...- Hanafuda

JVC HA-FX67 ... will removing filter improve sound?
I bought a set of these HA-FX67 "Air Cushion" IEM's cuz I wanted something less precious and more comfortable than the Super.fi 5 Pro's I used to have. And, as far as comfort goes the JVC's are a homerun. But the sound barely lives up to the $25 (shipped) I paid for them. Bass is too muddy and...- Hanafuda

LARGE HEAD! Want closed circumaural cans for less than $250, unamped preferred. Opinions?
I've got this problem which is that my head is HUGE. How huge? "99th percentile plus" according to a Johns-Hopkins educated neurologist. I did the IEM thing for a while and was never happy with the sound, and never happy with durability either. I've settled on some cheap IEM's (JVC HA-FX67...- Hanafuda

Possible to safely test for continuity w/o a multimeter?
I'm thinking about buying a d1001, and I plan on tinkering with it ... recable and markl mods. In doing so I'll need to confirm the polarity of the solder pads on the drivers. One of the threads here suggests there's a red mark to identify the positive pad on the d1001, but in another d1001...- Hanafuda

d1001 build quality. creaky? Fit a big head?
I'm about settled on the d1001 for a lug back-and-forth to work, do-it-all headphone, mostly because I don't really see anything else on the market that fits in the same niche of circumaural, closed, and still (sorta) portable, unless you go up to the Edition 8 maybe. And on my budget that ain't...- Hanafuda

D1001 ... circumaural or not?
I'm about fed up with the feel of the ES7 .. for some reason my ears just fight the pressure and the sides of my head just stay tense the whole time I wear them. I'm considering other supraaurals that might be more comfortable, especially the HD238, but I expect I'll be as annoyed with other...- Hanafuda

What's this PPAS I acquired capable of?
I traded an IEM recently to another member in exchange for his barely-used PPAS, which he got from the builder FallenAngel. (the guy I traded with bought an ibasso D10 for the dac/amp combo) I've tried the amp out a bit with my ATH-ES7, and I'm really impressed with the effect. But the ES7 isn't...- Hanafuda

Open, (trans)portable, and comfortable? (and oh yea, GOOD.)
Wouldn't have to be a strictly-intended 'portable' headphone, but I need something that is rugged and packable for to/from work everyday, some business trips and etc. Like in a courier bag or small backpack. And, needs to be open design. (got a closed portable already) And, needs to be...- Hanafuda

Some general (not SQ) questions about Ultrasone construction
I am not in immediate need, but after a couple years with IEM's and an ATH-ES7, I am determined to get a circumaural upgrade. This is for a 'transportable' rig for home/office/hotel. I don't walk around with phones on. But I need to be able to pack into a courier bag or small backpack ...- Hanafuda

Acute media otitis, tinnitus, and airplanes ... I got messed up.
I hesitated to post about this b/c it's kind of embarassing to come on head-fi and talk about your ears going haywire ... the immediate assumption from many members is going to be noise-induced (i.e. headphone) hearing loss. In my case, I can (about 99% ) attest that is not the cause. Anyway...- Hanafuda

Shpongle is shpecial.
Thanks to a few mentions here in the music forum, now I too have been Shpongled. No small thing, since I'm 42 years old and was dead set against just about any 'electronica' I've ever come across. My most recent somewhat open-minded attempt was Infected Mushroom, but the incessant... -
Penguin Caffeine & Royal out of production? Or just temp unavailable?
If you go to PenguinAmp.com, the caffeine and royal amps are no longer available, but they'd love for you to buy a Headstage Arrow. Is the Penguin Caffeine no more? Or is this just a hiatus?- Hanafuda

Circumaural upgrade from ATH-ES7?
I'm married with a couple kids and need closed cans. Right now I've got the ATH-ES7 which were like hitting the jackpot for their sound, but they don't isolate at all and the supra pad design is not fun for me. I've also got Super.fi 5 Pro IEM's that are more convenient, more portable, more...- Hanafuda

Can the Zune80 HDD be transplanted into the Zune30?
My old Zune 30 still works like a charm, though I do wish for more capacity. My 17 yr old son's Zune 80 has a busted screen & a non-functional lock slider. The display is totally dead, not cost effective to repair, but he says the Zune 80 still 'works.' Since he got a Cowon S9 for Christmas...- Hanafuda

Am I wrong to be leery of amps w/ li-ion built-in batts?
Many of the portable amps being sold now come with built-in rechargeable li-ion batteries. Very convenient and efficient, and quite the industry standard now with portable devices. But I tend to look for portable amps that take standard AAA or 9v batteries (rechargeables) because I know from...- Hanafuda

Help w/ gapless on Zune 30 ... what is best format, bitrate, etc?
All the music on my ol' brownie Zune 30 comes from either a CD or a lossless digital file (FLAC, SHN, APE). I use dbpoweramp for converting, and right now my collection is converted to 320kbps mp3 for use on the Zune. A lot of what I listen to is classical and ROIO's (especially Pink Floyd), so...- Hanafuda

Can I get DLO from an Ipod Classic 160?
looking for a higher capacity upgrade from my Zune 30. The original Zune's got some nice SQ from the headphone jack, so in order to see the Ipod 160 as an upgrade, I'd need to be able to get direct line-out from the synch port. Does the current classic 160 still do this like ipods of the past...- Hanafuda

Dang. I forgot how good my ES-7 sounds.
My Superfi5Pro's are busted and going back for replacement (warning to UE owners ... they tried to enforce the Logitech 1 yr warranty on me when I bought my Superfi's under the old UE 2 yr warranty) ... anyway, those Superfi5Pro's get used about 99.99% of the time, because they really are...- Hanafuda

Will we all be using pocket PC's in a few years?
I never gave the PC-as-source idea much thought, cuz I'm just a family guy with little disposable income for audio gear. And I'm pretty happy with my Zune, a decent pair of IME's (SF5Pros), and an ATH_ES7. When I started considering a home setup, I looked into this PC-as-source deal, cuz...- Hanafuda

UE's new cable for Sf/Tf ... anyone tried?
I've got a warranty replacement cable coming for my Super.fi 5 Pro, and according to Tara (sp?) at UE the cable for the Super.fi series and Tf10's has changed. It is now available in black only (no longer black, white, or clear) and has a straight plug instead of the usual right-angle. I...- Hanafuda
