I own that D2000's and have never really got why people classify them as bassy headphones. They have good bass and can get pretty low, but I think they represent the bass in a track pretty accurately.

I like the Beats, personally, they are just over priced. That being said, I think they look good but I don't like the all-plastic build. I've seen so many in stores that were cracked from people trying them.   I'm also pretty sure there are some headphones from some of the other top guys...

I have similar musical tastes and the Denon D2000 has been kind to me so far. I have an amp now but they sounded fine right of my iMac and iPhone 3G. In fact I did part of my break-in on an iPod Mini and even on those they sounded pretty decent. They aren't particularly portable though.

I'm powering my D2k's off a Maverick D1 right now and think they sound great, brand new the D1 is 200 bucks and acts as both a DAC and an AMP. I can't really bring myself to pay a thousand bucks for the sake of headphone listening, but more power to those that do.

I've gotten static shocked by my vmoda ear buds running off my iPhone several times, but it happened more during the winter when I was wearing sweaters and hats. So I'm not sure it had anything to do with the iPhone itself. It won't take much actual power to hurt your ears, the static shocks...

I had the D2000 and it's definitely not a portable headphone. The cable is long as hell and difficult to manage and the cups will scratch pretty easy. You said your source is going to be an iTouch, so you might want to keep that in mind. On the other hand, as a pair of headphones for in-home...

It's a UK show, so they can only show the video in the UK, has nothing to do with drivers unfortunately.

That's a manufacturers defect, Denon should replace them under warranty.

Might want to give the Sony XB500 or XB700 a shot, XB500 is under $50 and has good bass.

I heard a lot about the JVC HARX700. I have not heard them myself, but they are closed and in your budget.

I have the XB500, and they are indeed good for hip-hop, as long as you can boost the treble. Without boosting the treble, they sound pretty miserable. I hear that the 700's are actually worse than the 500, actually.
