Trying to get in to Stax! need advice on price/match for Airbow Sr SC-1 + 212 Amp
I'm very happy with my SR-404 and SRM-252A which i believe should be pretty close to the airbow set up. I'd say, go for it. I think i've gotten over the headphone hoarding period of my life and am contemplating selling everything off but this setup and my baby stax setup (i love that too). ...- wang228

Customize A Setup for $540
3D realism. Headphones probably not the best bet for you. I would look into some speaker set up if I were you. For me, headphone is all about nuance, texture, and details.- wang228

Sennheiser HD 650 sounds muffled
Give you ears sometime to get adjusted. Coming from K501/K271S, I hated 650 at first too. Now I've had the senn for 7 years... and it's probably the last phones i'll let go. Changing amp/dac wont change it's character dramatically. If you can't get adjusted after one or two weeks of exclusive...- wang228

Will there still be an "audiophile headphones" in the future?
Sure, there is still a huge gap between HD800 and live concerts.- wang228

Who is DONE? How long have they been DONE for?
i'm done for two-three years now, and i've come to the opinion that any decent headphone/amp/dac above $100 is matter-of-preference. I likely won't pay thousands to listen to a few well recorded cd. Back to music.- wang228

Are the HF-2/650/701 the Headphone Trinity?
I've also been enjoying the trinity of Senn/Grado/AKG for a few years. They cover almost everything for me,.... though life would never be complete without stax/electrostatics.- wang228

AKG: K340 vs K240DF vs K501
W1000 is much more colored than either K340 or K501. They it before you buy. I like both K340 and K501 and frankly can't say which is better. K501 is lighter and more comfortable though. I've never tried K240DF.- wang228

Grado HF1 or Alessandro MS2
I owned MS2 and HF1 at the same time at some point. Both are good phones, but I slightly prefer MS2 (the old version before sr325i came out). On the grand scheme of things, they aren't that different. Both are grados. MS2 sounds more extended at both ends of frequency spectrum. HF1 is warmer...- wang228

Is it me or...
Most likely people are just reluctant to post bad reviews. Compounding to this is the fact that difference among amps are small compared to phones. Often, the difference is in the vicinity of matter of preference. It's hard to see how one could bash amps based solely on listening. Things are...- wang228

Symphones Magnum upgrade for Grado SR325 and Alessandro MS2
"MAGNUM upgrade for Grado SR325, HF2, and Alessandro MS2" Does this imply that HF2 uses the same driver as SR325/MS2? Or is this some well known fact i miss?- wang228

With "these" attributes, how does Grado have a fanbase ?
Comfy pads are very comfy for me. And I do like grado's styling much better than the marble look of HD600 or ipod-white K701.- wang228

List your Grado order of preference
HF2 ~ MS2 > HF1 > MS1 >> SR60 I like HF2 about the same as MS2. Both are slightly better than HF1, having a little bit more clarity and better defined bass. MS1 to me is the best bargain based on price/sound.- wang228

Grado and Sennheiser factory view
I'm wondering whether the senn pics are really representative of the actual assembling process. I'm a working scientist, and the real lab bench never look quite like what they portray in magazines/advertisements.- wang228

HD650 - Fav Music Styles
It depends on recordings. I listen mostly to classical music and generally I do like classical music on HD650. For big orchestral pieces with some weight in the bass department, it's the only phones in my possession that is satisfactory on a regular basis.- wang228

Considering HD650's... will my amp be enough?
I share the same sentiment as Germancub's regarding amping headphones. Given you already have EF-1, I would not worry too much about amping. Be ready to hear quite a bit of difference between HD650 and K701 though. If you like the AKG, you may not enjoy the senn.- wang228
