I've always enjoyed taking a bath and listening to headphones out of my ipod.

But the other day I started wondering if it might be dangerous. I always listen with crappier headphones just in case they fall into the water and break. But is it possible that I could get electrocuted if the headphones fell into the water? My first thought is that it would be fine, but what about headphones with active noise canceling, the kind that basically "turn on". And then lastly I thought: Would dropping my ipod in the water electrocute me?

Could anyone clear this up or offer any insight?

Absolutely not. Not in a dangerous way, at least. The battery doesn't hold nearly enough energy to harm you.

Well, I've seen electronics in general fall into water (Nintendo DS, iPod)... and washed my phone

They just kinda stop working. No electrocution that I remember...

Just be careful and don't "thrash" in the bathtub (if you do

)

Hope this helps.

just to be sure, don't use any wall-powered headphone amp.

How do you wash your hair with a pair of headphones on?

Bald?

Thanks for clearing this up. And don't worry I never bring my amp when I listen in the bathtub, that would be a bad idea.

Batteries hold quite a bit of charge, but they're only dangerous when they're discharged over a fraction of a second instead of a few hours.

Now if you took a dip with a set of studio monitors, that's a different story.

as long as he dries the inside of the headphone before using it nothing is going to happen to the headphone

Assuming he's bathing in 100% pure water. If the drivers get wet with tap water, you're gonna see impurities left on the driver, thus degrading sound quality.

Aww why not? I even add bleach to the mix to kill germs. And to speed up the drying process, I again dunk the whole thing into a bucket of alcohol.
