Solved... Solution: install Windows 7. There just aren't any Ubuntu drivers for the USB to spdif converter that I was using. Everything is working fine with foobar in windows 7. Feels weird, I haven't used windows for over 3 years.

Thanks for response. Everything is in flac. foobar is being a bitch in Ubuntu...
