Great choice, I have the FiiO E09K that I use with mine, the amp is mainly for my DT880's but it sound's great with my 780's as well.

The 780's don't really need an amp, I am driving them right now out of the Colorfly C3 which only has 12mW of output.

On a side note... The new Daft Punk Album is amazing and sounds great on the 780's by the way... :D

Thanks TrollDragon! Yes my options were the Shiit Mangi, FiiO E09k and the C&C BH for my first headphone amp. I wanted something around the $100 range for my first amp so I'll see how it goes!

Enjoy the Magni, that is some nice Schiit... :D

The C&C would make an excellent portable if your looking to get one.

My Proline 550s are finaly back from repairs along with some promo material. The badge particularly looks pretty nice! They replaced the headband with the one found on the Pro550 along with the new memory foam headpad.

Just got my first Ultrasone HFI-780 last week and they have become my main gear for everything when not using...SPEAKERS!

They give me everything my favorite headphones do. The speaker like soundstage and detailed treble of the Audio Technica ATH AD-700. The non intruding bass of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro with a bit of a metallic sheen similar to the Koss UR-40. A nice level of isolation but not at the same level of the HD 280 Pro. Comfortable with a nice long optional cord. Plays great with my Onkyo TX-8555 stereo receiver.

Makes all the different genres of music I listen to sound great from Brian Eno, Gary Numan, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer to all sorts of classical music and bass heavy music like the movie soundtrack to Tetsuo The Bullet Man.

I put away most of my headphones in storage that's how good the Ultrasone HFI-780 is covering pretty much all the bases. For games like FALLOUT 3, SKYRIM, OBLIVION, DIABLO 3, THE HAUNTED HELLS REACH, BIOSHOCK 2 etc :D it brings out all the details to the very last coffee rich tone.

Thanks a lot to the Head-fi Forums for guiding me to what could be the end game for me. Next is the Schiit Audio Asgard headphone amp for variety from my Onkyo receiver and active monitors that come with some great headphone outputs.

Anyone know how to protect the Ultrasone Pro 900's aluminum nameplates? I keep scratching mine with the gold plugs because gold is harder than aluminum. They also scratch easier than anything I've ever seen. Is there any protectors or any coating we can use to prevent scratches? They'll inevitably get scratched up if we don't protect them in some way and I really like to keep my Pro 900s clean and extremely shiny. Thanks in advance.

You can use a film protector on the nameplates (DIY) but they wont look as shiny as before.

I had the HFI-2400 as my first Ultrasone. The plates got scratched pretty bad. But with the PRO 900/2900 I was much more careful. I always used the case and made sure that the cable plug was fixed properly. I could sell both as mint. Now with the Signatures they switched from aluminum to glass. I think they learned. Putting on any protective layer looks bad. You need to be careful that's all.

I'll look into the film protectors, thanks! And to answer pietcux, I don't mind my headphones looking bad as long as they are protected (which raises an interesting paradox because if they look bad being protected why would I care about them looking bad scratched then?) I guess I'd rather try to maximize the value and longevity of my favorite set of cans. I might do the Meguir's Metal Polish mirror like look on the actual ultrasone pro 900 thread because it looks way cool to basically have them as reflective as a normal mirror. That way when the bass is thumping, the reflections in the cups will vibrate visibly, similar to car mirrors that shake if the subwoofer is strong enough.

I now have the Signature Pro to add to my Pro900. Love them both and quite happy I got the chance to discover the Ultrasone sound.
