I don't know if anyone has posted this already or not, but the Westone 4R is on Amazon for $319 new. It's been at that price for a couple weeks now.

I just got these, great price and superb headphones.

thinking about these, have the W4's, but cable starting to fray. no warranty. bugs me that cable can kill the whole thing (same thing happened to Shure 500's), removable cable appealing, I know some don't like them but practically can be useful sometimes.

My W4s were modded to W4R.

Since my $500 Shure SE500 experience, I've sworn to never purchase any expensive IEMs unless they have removable cables. Yes, Shure, I lost the receipt, and the authorized dealer went bankrupt, but of course I'll follow your recommendation and go ahead and spend another $500 to get a new pair that will fray away in another 4 months! As Gunnery Sergeant Hartman said, "H$&* I like you, you can come over to my house and f#&% my sister!"

I've been listening to them for about two hours, they are so comfortable with the True-Fit foam tips I keep forgetting they are in my ears. Also, it has been mentioned in another thread that the W4Rs seem to be better balanced than the W4s, as Westone made an effort to calibrate them to be more precisely balanced.

I've heard there are some places to change to removable cables. Who did you use, if I may ask? (I know, it's not a deal, I'll let it drop after this)

Not sure if he got his done from Brian at BTG-audio, but I've heard that Brain has done it before.

I had the Amps HD version when it came out $100 2 years ago. The earpieces were heavy and would easily dislodge with the slightest tug. The sound signature was very bassy and no sparkle up top-almost too warm/dark and cannot hear any percussion on music by Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers.  And one side suffered from driver flex. The regular Amps version should be less refined from the HD, but even at $30, there's way better options out there:

VSonic VSD1 is highly recommended
and even the Monoprice 9927 sound better (but does not fit my ears well).

EDIT: I gave it an excellent review on bestbuy.com because I think any headphones were better than the apple earbuds, and these were my first "expensive" pair. But hindsight is 20/20 and it just wasn't good for me. I think I'll update that review.
