In the Phonak spirit, there are two pairs of 232s on Amazon Warehouse for under $400.

Word here is that MDR 7550 is basically a rebranded North American version of the Japanese EX 800ST made and tuned exclusively by Sony Music Communications Inc. of Japan... the same Sony department who makes the CD 900ST.  These ain't Sony consumer electronics grade.

The ebay price is actually quite good. The 7550's are similar to the legendary and no longer produced flagship earphone MDR-EX1000, but without the harsh (exaggerated) highs that some people couldn't stand (but not everyone!). A new pair of ex1000's will set you back a good $500.

At $180, the MDR-7550 is a stupendously good value. I've owned mine for some time now, and it's one in-ear that I refuse to be without. It's also the only in-ear that I'll be purchasing a second set of, strictly as a back up pair. Though, the very first thing I did with my current set was purchase an extended Squaretrade warranty, to ensure that my investment is protected for years to come. Definitely want these to stay with me for as long as they possibly can.

They also respond very well to EQ adjustments. So, for those that prefer greater treble presence, with a little help from an EQ, the MDR-7550 is more than willing to fulfill your demands. I use mine in conjunction with the E17 and Arrow 4G (with bass and treble boosts applied, in both cases), and they deliver among the most enjoyable listening experiences I've ever experienced.

Just be sure to read up on both their pros AND cons beforehand. For instance, isolation is average at best (or arguably below average, depending on the tips used and the subsequent seal achieved), wind noise remains a well known issue, lack of accessories (opposed to the EX series), etc. But, if/once you look past their shortcomings, you'll be greeted with a most pleasant listening experience, that's for sure.

Just snagged a pair of KSC75's here. They sound good - better than the PortaPro to my ears. Im tempted to find more.

Thanks for the heads up!

I was just going to post the same thing! I think they sound amazing for $5 and better than my Porta-Pros.

Sweet. Just got the last two pairs of the Koss KSC75 from my local Home Depot 2 miles from my house. Not bad for under $11 after tax.

..

You mean office depot right?
