My discovery today: DSD files.

So I downloaded some DSD samples from NativeDSDMusic to see what the meme is about. I’m surprised that I hear a noticeable difference in the spatial illusion when comparing the same track with my FLAC copy. The placement of instruments is the same, but each instrument feels more “real” in the space, and separation and layering are stronger.

DSD consumes a lot of storage space and PITA to collect, so I would pretend that I haven’t heard anything.

If the recordings are native DSD
and not converted from PCM,
yes, the difference is audible IMO.

I notice how "packing as many drivers into a shell as possible" is becoming a new pseudo-market differentiator for some ChiFi IEM companies, much like Topping and SMSL herald with angelic trumpets new amp releases that feature .0003 less THD than previous models. Whoop-dee-doo.

They will lower the prices eventually. Even now Trio sells on Ali for 19$ already (off from ~25$ from most stores + coins discount and 2$ anniversary coupon).

The only thing that bothers me and put my Trio purchase on hold until next sale - if Trio is really comparable to Rhapsody in terms of sound, why it dropped in price so fast (25ish bucks even before Ali sale started)?

I haven't heard Rhapsody (@Tamizhan I remember has and likes em), but Trio is really good. As O0genesis would say, my batch, my unit etc ...! I don't know if Rhapsody is better, but can talk about the Trio. I was looking for the discount (in my country), as I wanted to gift a couple to friends. So, am at least pretty satisfied with the sonic quality.
