Thanks,

I will have a read later but at a glance there seemed to be a differentiation between tinnitus caused by hearing damage and that caused by other reasons.

It seems, at a glance, that tinnitus can be caused by the same things that cause dementia.

Tinnitus caused by physical hearing damage would seem to be a correlation not causation thing.

Sorry if I have missed something in my glance through that.

@pk4425 .... as a man over a certain age there is a bunch of other medical sh..t that is worth worrying about far more than dementia related to tinnitus, you will be golden mate
Thanks. I'm certainly not losing sleep over it. We all have to go some way. I don't worry about mortality. It's coming, so why get angsty? CARPE F*CKING DIEM.
Won't know if it knocks the AFUL Cantor or Letshuoer Cadenza 4 off their perch, for me, until they land either tomorrow or Saturday?
Eager for your comparisons!

LOL. Leader in the clubhouse for Disco Thread metaphor of the month! Well played!

Moondrop Psyche (?)
2DDs + 4BAs + 2 Planars.

Its not that long ago that moondrop release their big boy Meteor

They now going to release another big girl iem.
Christ on a bike, another waifu. Who in the holy hell would put that in their ears? If I put those in my ears as a 59-year-old man, I wouldn't blame the world for seeing the faceplate and immediately thinking, "Pedophile." Not one bit.
As for is the TRN ST7 still worth it? It would be WORTH. EVERY. PENNY at $50.00, but at half that, it's a steal. It's a skillfully tuned IEM with what? 6 BA's and dual DD? So 8 drivers, and a full on orbital stage from a tiny shell. How did they get that kind of stage from such a tiny shell?!?! NiceHCK should try and steal TRN's company secret for the NX7/8!!
I miss my TRN ST7. Gave them to my father, and I bet he doesn't even use them! But I can't reverse-gift. Maybe I'll buy another pair during a sale. I dug the stage for such a cheap IEM, too.
On the topic of tinnitus and hearing loss and stuff, my family literally doesn’t care about their hearing whatsoever. I’m serious. They’ve never worn earplugs to concerts, my father used to listen with his Sony XM4s (in ears) so loud, I could hear it from across the sofa, and whenever I remind them about protecting their hearing they say “oh my gosh you’re so paranoid stop overreacting” or something like that.
I’m genuinely worried for them.

Lots of love,
Tinnitus non-sufferer (thank gosh)
I wish no thoughts of schadenfreude, but they will pay for this abuse in the future. And it won't be pleasant.
That’s the first time I’ve ever seen someone say “overly resolving”. Isn’t resolution a good thing?
Sometimes. Let me use a food analogy to explain.

A highly resolving IEM like the Cantor is like a seven-course meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Intense. Involving. Commands your attention at every course. But also rewarding if that's what you seek. But there are some nights you just want to curl up with chicken wings and a beer over a game on TV -- comfort food. That's where a warm IEM without ultra-resolution -- like the Explorer -- is the perfect meal.
I would like to buy a Cantor, but will wait for February 25
OK, please school this more recent IEM aficionado: Is Feb. 25 Chinese New Year, with corresponding sales at Chi-fi outlets? Thanks.

Presenting my Tuesday Trio.

Just got back from the gym, and the rest of my day off will be all about chillin', and what a better way to do that than with this fabulous trio of IEMs.

Simgot EW300
DUNU Brain Dance

AFUL Explorer

Sources : Hiby R3 II (untethered), and the Sony NW-A25 (untethered). The DUNU won't get the A25 treatment though. That thing needs way more power than the A25 can supply. Maybe the Sony NW-A55 later tonight, after a good charge?

Nu urban jazz and downtempo on tap.

What rigs are you listening to today? IEMs? Headphones? Sources?

The Ibasso SR3 headphones with Ifi Go Bar Kensi are a fine match. They actually matched better than the DC Elite, which Ibasso makes.

@pk4425

From your job in the racing industry, a very serious question. Did you ever meet Ricky Bobby?
You mean Will Ferrell? No, most of the promotion for that movie was done at tracks other than the one where I work.

Now, if you mean Ricky Bobby, that's a fictitious character! :)

The thing with the SM4, where it lays a big phat egg, is the pillowy soft bass. Sure, overall, you could say the technicalities are above the EW300 (agreed!), but an IEM is more than "is it technical"?? The stage is more intimate (a big gripe of the SM4 was it's stage lacked immersiveness) and the bass sucked. I absolutely agree with these assessments. This is not a problem for the EW300, so where the EW300 gives up the edge in technicalities and maybe air, upper mids incisiveness, it makes up for it in every other important sonic metric. But yes, it's never that cotton dry, but for my tastes, it's a beast of an IEM.

Ok, ew300 is on my list for next sale now!
For you guys who heard both, is the delta between these two somewhat what it is IRL?
(Use a good neutral set.)

I thought you might know him. Being as you are both famous.

Honestly, I find both boring. EW300 has a bit better bass, but both just have unnatural treble for my ears. Maybe I've just been spoiled by all the other amazing sets out there, even at lower price points.

Are people really constantly unhappy about their gears that they need to buy more? My impression is that folks in this thread are more about morbid curiosity rather than chasing some unreachable dragons 😂
Like others have said, it's FOMO. How will I know if the latest thing isn't 0.001% better than the thing we already have??? I must know!
I chased the dragon and caught it first try.
Take the win and get out while you can!
Softears Volume S vs Noble Knight vs Timsok TS-316 opinions?
I have the TS-316 and it is outstanding. I am intrigued by Volume S and Knight. I am hearing that Volume S is quite good. I have not heard anything other than an announcement of Noble Knight.
Only have the Volume S but man it is good! Just really easy to vibe with and enjoy the music. Nothing sounds "wrong" at all and I enjoy both tunings for different genres.
They're the herd. We're the outliers.
☝️ This. It's so easy to forget when you're here and surrounded by other like-minded people that we are all absolutely not mainstream. Not even remotely close. I still have yet to see anyone walking around with a wired IEM that's not some cheap Apple/Beats/other consumer grade stuff and I live in SD which is not a small city. I'm just waiting for the day someone stops me and asks what the thing is in my ear and why the cable is so thick 😅.
Gents, just posted my review of the HIBY R1, probably one of the cheapest DAPs around.

Thanks for the review! I just ordered one the other day. I'll mostly use it as a secondary/burn in device after my LG V30 finally crapped out, but I'm definitely looking forward to trying it!
Won't know if it knocks the AFUL Cantor or Letshuoer Cadenza 4 off their perch, for me, until they land either tomorrow or Saturday?
As a self proclaimed FWAL2 preference connoisseur, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Volume S won't be a home run for you, at least not with the low impedance setting. The high impedance will probably be more your jam, but I doubt it'll overtake the Cadenza 4 from the way you've talked it. Do let us know your impressions!
So what do ya‘ll think Noble is doing with this upcoming under $300 offering? I mean, that is MILES south of everything else they have. Surely they can’t make it sound unbelievable because they want to save that for the higher end sets but they won’t want to make it sound like trash either so not to leave a bad taste in the mouth of the virgins to the brand.
I'm not familiar with Noble as I haven't heard any of their IEMs but my guess is this will be their version of the Pilgrim. An introduction to their house sound for a low entry price. Let's just hope it's better than the Pilgrim 🫣
Take it with a grain of salt. I haven’t heard it. I’m going off what I’ve seen online. I didn’t mean to offend anyone
I think every IEM above, say, $2500 is overpriced. That kind of money is unreasonable for any IEM IMO. The reason I mentioned the Anni in particular was because it was the first IEM in that price range that came to mind.
From someone who very recently reviewed the Anni, I agree. 😏
Christ on a bike, another waifu. Who in the holy hell would put that in their ears? If I put those in my ears as a 59-year-old man, I wouldn't blame the world for seeing the faceplate and immediately thinking, "Pedophile." Not one bit.
Ya this new Moondrop could be the best thing under $2k, but there's no way I'm rocking the waifu shells.

I need some advices from discoverers: I’m upgrading my methodology and template to review sources. If you were to write a source review that you yourself want to read, what do you include?

Features, features, features...

Sound and benchmarks, not so much for me, beyond the usual cliches of "warm" and "dry" or "Low distortion."

Be nice to know about output impedance and pairing with very sensitive IEMs/phones.

I don’t find the Cantor fatiguing whatsoever but YMMV ofc.
Just to clarify things....I'm not dissing superb resolution, hence why I'm uber interested in the Volume S. I guess in my case a month ago, I experienced quite jarring frequencies - whilst creating synth laden electronica (noticeably more-so via the K11 R2R.) My current set up negates it, but I'm now more mindful of choosing my next set. Hence the double tuning functionality of the Volume S, might be a perfect fit for both critical listening & music making projects?
