My wife loves her Legato, what are the odds that she'll dig the Fatfreq Scarlet Mini?

(Apologies for the source, didn't see any other Squigs... lol)

I love the Legato myself. Perhaps this is for me too…

I watched your video review and I saw Hidizs AP80 Pro X next to R3 gen II. How do these two compare? Is the R2 gen II better than the AP80 Pro X?
Thank You.
There is no comparison. AP80 Pro X sounds even worse than an average dongle. Stage is small and 2D, micro detail is dull and missing, I can hear clipping and distortion through line out, the lis goes on and on. This device is why I had zero expectation when Hiby asked me to test and give feedback about the R3 II.

To be fair, the R3 Pro Saber from my friend was not good either. To me, the R3 II is the first small DAP that I find “listenable”. It’s not just because I daily drive the DX300 either. I find the DAC in old PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS sounds better than both AP80 Pro X and R3 Pro Saber, with proper staging (they need to, for gaming).

It’s time for Hidizs to upgrade the AP80 Pro X. Maybe make it slightly larger so that better amp can be included.

I'm interested in possibly buying the Scarlet Mini but it's overpriced for what it is.

Going to wait for reviews first before deciding if spending $625 for an ultra basshead IEM is worth it.

I finally received 1More Penta (took exactly a month....)

Accessories are a mixed bag.
I had to change the cable for the one without ear guides, only then the fit and comfort could work.
The DAC looks small and very generic, and a good zipper case could be expected, given MRSP.
The shells are surprisingly small.

You can recognize the comparison.

The first impression on sound - quite bright and prominent on details and a bit piercing, with those "boxed SPD" drivers sounding fairly distinct from both.BAs and SPDs of Kinera that I can compare with.

I am still not sure about Penta's DD - may need some "burning" (either of the drivers or the brain, or both). I plan to compare with Hexa, Phoenixcall, F9 pro, 1More Quad, and my favourite budget hybrid pair of ZAX and CA16

See to me I would rather spend the big bucks on a perfected basshead set than yet another boring Harman tuned iem.

I started to have a feeling with some part of "audiophile" community that even if they were to write their reviews about toasters, "Project Red" would win for them there as well:)

Well, Scarlet Mini is not it. You'd be going up to $1,900+ for the Maestro SE and other IEMs above $2K from Empire Ears or FIR Audio.

I think sometimes this thread and water-cooler too warps the perception of price in this hobby haha. It is perfect for me at a price I can get at, and I'm already privileged to be able to afford one at this price. A Maestro SE is also on my list to get but at over 2x the price is going to be something of a long term goal.

You said "the big bucks on a perfected basshead set," so that's what I'm responding to.

Here's a squig from HBB of the two. I haven't listened to either of them, but based on how they graph, I think I'd be perfectly fine with the Scarlet Mini as my basshead IEM at their price point.

If this image to be believed in,

1694075240546.png

Then TRN is mostly using older BAs (or they are "updated/custom" version or basically old unit with dampers)
this promo image is curiously missing from the the new marketing materials

and its replaced with this image of nondescript BAs instead (and only descriptive BAs "low freq BA" without driver series number)

1694075509684.png

and yeah no mention of DLP sound tube shell, just "aviation grade aluminium-magnesium shell."
---
while TRN have advantages of "Moar drivers~!", both AS24 and Kumo uses new gen driver who are supposedly better performing + DLP soundtube shells.
well, i guess its depend on the application and tuning.
I'll see you this and raise you...
