Audio Technica M-50's are on sale for $110 on Amazon... And trust me...I know they are on sale cause I planned on buying them for christmas... but they were $140 then...and my dad said it was 20 bucks out of his "price range"......

I'd say that they are very good for the money, an excellent value for a set of headphones under $100. Can't do wrong. 
 
But yeah, there's some hype that goes beyond that.

Guitar Center is running a $20 off a $99 or more purchase until 12/31. It works both online and in store. I got a pair of Shure SE-215s for $79. They also had DT-770s, M-50s, a few AKGS models, and the KRS line of full sized cans in the local store.
